Arkansas—Tlctwecn tho people of Arkan-
,us and their “ good Governor," there ap
pears to i„) not a little angry feeling. Of the
pgin of tho quarrel we know nothing, but wo
jsrn from the Southern Advocate, that the
iessiot; of the General Assembly of the Ter
dory, which has just closed, whs marked by
he most disgraceful scones of intemperance.
Icvcral acts, after having passed both houses,
/ere arrested by tho Governor’s veto. In-
iguant ot hia high-handed exorcise of power,
he House pussed a joint memorial, petition-
ng Congrc.se to suffer the people of tho Tor-
itury to'elect their own Governor and Sccro*
ary of State. This memorial was also nr-
-ested by tho executive veto. At length tho
speaker of tho House of Representatives sent
um an official communication directed to
John Pope,” which the latter promptly re
urnod, remarking, that ho would receive no
itch document in his official intercourse. We
know not which of the parties is most in fault,
itt nno thing seems very obvious; as Mr.
?opc has become obnoxious to hts fellow-cit*
gens of Arkansas, tho principle of self-respect
I'noothor, requires him to resign his office.
'So man, with feelings truly republican, would
■sit to govern an unwilling pecplo.
From all appoaranres it is likely that a ro-
ision of the tariff will he the great business
f tho present session of Congrosp. The
rj.ovementa of both Unities show that this ob-
t is uppermost in tho minds of both parties,
he tariff parly appears, from tho demonslra-

ottuns, sugars, Sec. Clay and Webster in
ho Senate, and Dearborn and others in the
Home, have sufficiently developed tho policy
(heir partv intend to pursue. On tho other
hand it appears to be the plun of the free trade
party, and such of tho friends of a protecting
policy oh aro disposed to measures of roncilia-
ion, to make a general revision nf duties, mid
>3 reduce tho tariff throughout to a scale which
will he equitable and satisfactory. We pre
sume, therefore, that somo plan of this kind
will he prepared and presented by tho proper
ommittee in one orbnth houses. Whore sit
parties aro to willing to cornu to a consulera- (

that vast continent he thereby opened to tho

of cuurso lost in wonder that for three centu

vulgar tradition, and that the European cap
