At Adairsville, on the 5th inst. Mrs. The
resa C., consort of Capt Robert S. Patton,
formerly of this place. The deceased was
young, amiable and lovely, and lias left
many kind friends to weep over her early
loss, and sympathize with her affectionate
husband and relatives,
late her many virtues, and meet her iu a
happier clime, where parting is unknown.
At the residenct of Col. Lindsey Johnson,
in Cass county, on the 5th inst., of consump
tion, Dr. Walton Wyly, of Talladega,

Departed this life, on the evening of the
6tli inst., at his residence in Cass county,
after an illness of nine days of malignant
fever, Capt. F. Lewis, aged 33 years,
10 months and 21 days. In the death of
Capt. Lewis the community has lost an ex
cellent citizen. To his bereaved widow and
five small children, and aged parents, and a
large circle of kindred and friends, his loss
is irreparable. But although our loss is
very great, we fondly hope it is his eternal
gain. Peace to his remains.

A Stamp Speech.
The following specimen of quaint humor,
says the Pacific News, we find in one of our
exchanges, under the head of .California
News’—they purporting to have been deliv
ered by a stump candidate of San Francis
co :

I was intended by nature for a great states

Chagres river in a canoe with a deaf and

S EALED PROPOSALS will be received
(by depositing them in the clerk’s office
Inferior court) until the first Monday in No
vember next, for the building of a court
house in Ellijay, Gilmer county, to he of
brick, two stories high, of ten feet each, fif
ty feet wide by sixty long, a plan of which
can be seen by calling on the Clerk of the
Inferior Court, who will give all the inform
ation desired. The county will lie able to
pay under existing circumstances four or five
hundred dollars yearly. Any person living
at a distance, w'ifl he furnished with a plan
of the house by addressing the clerk of the
Inferior court. They can also he informed,
if they desire it, if their bids are taken.
