The steamer Georgia arrived at New York yesterday morning from Aspinwalt, bringing tbe Californ : a mails and $2,500,000 in spe cie. The steamer Prometheus, from San Juan, also arrived yesterday, with two hundred passengers, and San Frmeisco dates to the 1st nit. We have the annexed telegraphic report of news: There had been several attempts to set fire to San Francisco, which caused considerable excitement. Major lleintxelman has succeeded in mak ing peace with the Yuma Indians. The news from the mines is favorable; grid has been found in the mountains near Beuasventura. Political affairs in California were in a very excited state, and tbe papers were filled with electioneering articles, to the exclusion of every thing else. The city of San Francisco had paid up tbe interest on her debt to November 1st, leav ing a large surplus. Gotten had been raised in 8an Joaquin county equal to any Southern in sise and quality. Coal had been discovered in Trinity coun- ty- Chili flour was selling at $32 and Ameri can at $36; butter at 39 a 42 cents; Caro lina rice at 19 a 20 cents. The opening should be aliout the at the election on 1st January next, size of a small knitting needle; its object is to open the blood vessels of the nerve, which will at once be known by the flow of artri- al blood. The cavity of the tooth may then be filled without the least fear of pain or ill consequences. This plan has been success fully practiced in a great number of cases. Y. Times. Electoral College of Georg!*. A' majority of the Electoral College of Georgia met on Monday the 29th inst., at Milledgeville, and organised by the appoint ment of the Hon. Wilson Lnmpkin, as Chair man, and Joseph II. Xisbet as Secretary. They again assembled on Wednesday, in the Senate Chamber at 12 o'clock, and cast the vote of the State for Franklin Pierce, for President, and William R. King, for Vice President. All the Electors were present* except the non. Thomas M. Foreman, of McIntosh, whose vacancy was filled by Dr. Tomlinson Fort, of Baldwin. After the vote was cast, R. Manson Stcll, &q.. of Henry, was selected as Messenger, to carry the vote to Washington City. We understand Mr. Foreman reached Milledgeville a few minutes after the vote was cast, having rode 72-miles on horseback and iu a buggy, on the same day, to reach tbe Capitol in time to cast his vote.— Macon Telegraph. ®l)c illiukcts, &c. The scene that eaaaed is truly heartrending to de tente. The frightened citizens, of all ages and sexes, half clad, and many of them without food, were, at last accounts, indis criminately huddled together; and as if to add to their deplorable condition, the rain was pouring upon them in torrents. Par- ante and children became seperated in the excitement of the retreat, and it was feared .that many had been drowned. At Bacalar, on the30th Oct., the Indians were surround ing the town; in addition to which, it had bean raining for fifteen days, and it was supposed that water had fallen to the depth ten n level. At Belize it had also ally for twenty-three days. Numerous lives had teen lost, and the crops an# stash throughout the oountry were ml- ■oik destroyed.
