Albert J. Owen opened school at
this place last Monday with 41
scholars, and he thinks that amount
will be doubled in three weeks. Its

We have often hoard people wish¬

vising wishers, that when they wish
to wish for a ship load of noodles
wore off up to the eye sewing up
bags filled with gold, and the gold
all theirs.
A GOOD IMPRESSION.
A certain gentleman, and we
might say bachelor too, was coolly
conversing with a young lady not
long since, when toe mother came

produced a redness, and we learn the
redness still remain, we suppose
either from the effect of the stroke,
or else her exoited displeasure to>
ward him for bia misdemeanor.
This is a love story wh*oh may be
said to have ended with a good im¬
pression.

The corn and cotton crops are
looking quite prosperous the lust few
weeks Wheal and oat crops are
tqfning out a fine yield. One man
harvested 7$ bushels of wboal
from fifteen dozen shocks.
Draft playing is the usual pastime
at this place. L A Green is the
champion playor,
The painter's brush has been used
pretty lively in this place for the
last month, which adds much to the
appearance of the town.
Mr. Welce of S. 0., has been in
oaf town some few days. He is pay
inga good price for beef cattle.

W A Royaton, one ol tho propri¬
etors of the Franklin Springs, has
procured a handsom hack,for the pur
pose of carrying passengers too and
from the springs! The springs are
getting to be a Sunday evenings re¬
sort by the young people of this
town, we noticed one young mao on
last Sunday, who mado an extra vis¬
it whioh is not common for him to
do. we forbare telling his name at
present, until he gets marriod. .

Miss Fannie Gary has gone on a
visit to relatives add friends in El¬
bert county. We wish her a pleas
and visit.
Miss Vick Osborn has returned
from Elborton, where she hak been
attending a munc school. We sup¬
pose she will take charge of a liter¬
ary school for a few months.
Miss Lula Galloway, who ban been
spending some few weeks at the
springs, Left for her home in Due
\yest S. C. on the 12th inst. We
think Miss Lulu made many friendv
during her stay, and we hope her
visit was pleasant.
We learn the Cunningham house
was crowded some few nights
with boarders. Mr. C. should en¬
