precedent. Among them are liev P

at Farmers Academy, Daniel McKen

Allen’s, Mr: Stribbling at Martin and

MRS. NANCY PHILIPS.
Nancy Gober was born near where
Shannon’s mills now stand in Frank¬
lin county, on the 16th of Jiarch 1799
She was married to Wily Phillips
January 8th 1822. This couple were
the parents of eleven children, seven
of them bore arms in the civil strife.
Two these lost a limb each. Her
h usband departed this life on the
30 th of June 1874. .She is still wait¬
ing the summons of death to call her
over to meet him on that peaceful
shore. She lives to see her children
to the fourth generation and has 212,
all told. 184 of these are living and
only 153 in half of Dooly’s dstrict.
Her eldest daughter is sixty-four
years old, has ten son-indaws, 71 de¬
scendants and only nine of these have
felt the icy wave of death. ’

THE FRANLlN institute.
The fall term of this school opened
on Dec. 24th. Withont aDy at
tempt at display the pupils were sub¬
jected to a careful examination. No
special invitations had been tender¬
ed for visitors, hut a few citizens
went anyway and all expressed them¬
selves more than pleased with their
children’s training. Ono very inter
eating feature of the exercises we
wiil mention. At the close of the
programme was a spelling contest
A 1st and 2nd prize was offered foi
the bes« speffers. The contest was
long and close, hut finally ended in¬
favor of Miss Mattie McConnell for
the firs t and Willie McEnurc for the
second.
\ The outlook for the school is en¬
couraging, A large increase in at¬
tendance is expected during the
spring term which began Jan. 3rd.
Those who have not done so will do
well to patronize this school. Mild
but firm discipline, with thorough
and practical instruction is its mot
to.
Th3 readers of the Register will be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages,
and that is Catarrh. Hall’s Catarrh
cure is the only positive care now
known in the medical fraternity.
Catarrh being a constitutional disease
requires a constitutional treatment.
Hall’s Catarrh cure is taken internal
ly, acting directly upon the blood
and mucus surfaces of the system,
thereby destroying die foundation of
the disease arid giving the patient
strength, by building up the constitu¬
tion and assisting nature in doing its
work. The Proprietors hai’e so
much faith in its curative powers
that they offer one hundrod dollars
for any case if fails to cure. Send
for list of testimonials. Address,

The reduction of internal revenue
and the taking off of revenue stamps
from Proprietary Medicines, no
doubt has largely bcnefltted tho con¬
sume! s, as well as relieving the bur¬
den of home manufacturers, Es.
pecially is this the case with Green-8
August Floicer and Boschee’s Ger¬
man Syrup, as the reduction «f 36 cts
per dozen, has beon added to increase
th) size of the bottles containg these
