Miss Mmnie MeEntire left for
the Georgia Female Seminary yes¬
terday. She has spent two terras
there heretofore.
Miss Lula Burruss entered the
Georgia Female Seminary to-day,
where we presume she will remain
until she graduates.
We frequently notice cattle anc
stock on the street. The owners
must look after them. Stock law is
in force here and fences are being
torn down.
The school at the Franklin Insti¬
tute is in a flourishing coudition.
The students have organized a de¬
bating society which meets every
Friday night.
The merchants are getting in new
goods including large quantities of
meat and flour. Was such folly
ever known as a farmer buying bis
own meat and bread?
IThe bridge across the race at E.
C Yindiver’s gin fell in with H. W.
Hemphills traction engine a few days
ago. No damage was sustained ex«
eept the expense and delay in get¬
ting the engine out of the race.
A strange deg visited Carnesville
Saturday night, and had a number
of fights, und created quite a dis¬
turbance among the town dogs.
Some suspeci that he was a mad dog.
The 1 Cycamore trees in the court
house yard will soon die, unless they
are properly cared for. The expo
srne of their roots to the sunshine
and frost will certainly kill them.
We suggest that the owners of
poultry keep their flock within their
own enclosures. Persons who suffer
the inconvenience of the stock law
ean not afford to have their gardens
destroyed by chickens. '
The fence on the north side of
the south street between the foot of
the hill and the creek is rather un¬
sightly and slightly encroaches upon
the public street. The streets ar e
already too narirow and should not
be encroached upon a single inch,
Mr. Stone, of Augusta, the gen¬
tleman' from whom W. W. Jackson
obtained the traction engine that
has stood ia front of the blacksmith
shop for some time, was in Carnes
nesville a few days ago. IJe sold the
engine and saw J roiil to J W Baty.

Judge Tribble set out 30 or 40 En¬
glish Mulberrys, which has been
supplemented by the town Council
With more than one hundred Silver
aples, and the good work still goes
on. When the work contemplated
by the Council is completed there
.will be upward cf 200 shade tr ; es

| George Thomason has lor sale,
,six bushels of an exJra variety of
early prolific corn. It is claimed
that two crops can be raised on the
same land in one year, that it will
yield 50 bushels per acre on ordinary
upland; and if sown thickly broad
cast it will make an immense yield of
forage, and almost every stalk will
bear a small ear. Joseph Byram of
Anderson county S. C. raised. 50
bushels per acre last year, on com¬
mon upland without fertilizers. Mr.
Thomason sells it at ten cents per
eat, 25 cents per quart, $ 1 , per gallon
12 . per peck and $6 per bushel.
There seems to be a good deal of
misnndei standing as to the effect of
stock law in districts. Many persons
living in districts where stock law is
not in force, think they are not re¬
quired to keep their cattle out of
stock law districfs. This is a mistake;
if their cattle wander into a stock
law district they will be liable to be
im pounded. When stock are im
roiinded the owner, if required to
do so, will have to pay damages. If
the owner and the party impound¬
ing can not agree as to the damages,
the matter is carried before a justice
of the poace, who after hearing evi¬
dence fixes the amount to be paid.

The Franklin Institute
Is growing slowly but steadily. A
debating society has just been or¬
ganized which will be of mest ma
ble benefit to the y oung men of the
school ■ Here they will learn to
speak like the smith learns to make
a plow and the farmer to use it,
viz: by doing it . The work done
in the F ranklin Institute is thor¬
ough and practical. Tuition is low,
and board is cheap. Carnesville has
no bar-room nor gambling saloons
to dead the unwary youth astray;
consequently the people ot Franklin
may congratulate themselves on the
possession of such facilities and
should preserve them by a liberal
‘patronage, Send your boys and
girls to Carnesville.
