Successful Rescont of tlio Amazon Iliver.
Dr. H. II. Kushby, tho ominent botan-
1st, for nearly two years past liaa been
exploring tho resources of Peru, Bolivia
and Cliili, with respect to the supply and
cultivation of cocoa leaves. His travels
have been made on behalf alkaloid of prominent known
manufacturers of the new
as cocaine. After finishing his cocoa re¬
searches, the doctor was authorized to re¬
turn by way of the Amazon river, with a
view to obtaining scientific information,
concerning tho flora and other features of
t?in raeion. Dr. Rushby’s mission lias
just been brought to a close by a success
ful descent of the great river, from-the
mountains‘of. Bolivia lio floated in a canoe
a distance of somo 3,C00 miles, reaching

eiiincso Dyspepsia Cure.
From time immemorial the inhabitants
of tho Celestial empiro liavo used tho giz¬
zard of chicken:; and ducks in nearly all
mado dishes. Tho writers have recom¬
mended the practice aa a sovereign treat¬
ment of dyspepsia, weak stomach and
vomiting. A favorito prescription of
Chinese physicians for chronic indigestion
is to cut up and digest chickRi jppards
in hot water until they are mfticeU to a
pulp, apd then add some spices. A table
spoonful or two of the resulting paste is
taken at each meal until the patient has
entirely recovered. From China th#
practice passed to other parts of Asia, and
was adopted here and (here among the
Mediterranean people. Strange to say it
was never learned by the great natiobs of
ISurope until tho latter part cf the present
century.— American Analyst.
