STORV OF W1LLI AM KISSAN E
The ease of William Kissane
which attracted so much attention
,
throughout the country last spring,
has been brought to a close in the
Recorder’s court of New York
by a dismission of the
against him, it being found impos¬
sible to secyrc evidence of witnesses
against him. The charge on which
Kissane was arrested thirty vears
aga was that of forging checks for
a large amount on New* York
banks. He was brought to trial and
the jury disagreed. Again his case
came up, but was not disposed of,
and his attorney succeded in having
it taken to another court. Kissane
became a fugitive from justice, and
subsequent career presents one of
of the most astounding records
crime and achievements ever raada
in this country. When he disappear
cd from New Yoim, he joined Wal¬
kers, Nicaragua filibustering expedi¬
tion,-and was appointed Gommisary
and Quartermaster General under
Walker. He got into trouble with
the filibusters and deserted. He
reached the Sloop-of-war-St. Mary’s
a ragged, unkempt man, clad only in
a linen duster. He gave his name as
<*Hr W-XRogers. He jwggjaken.....,on
board and landed in San Francisco,
where ho remained in concealment
for some time, when he went to
British Columbia and soon got rich,
