Judge Grand Bteddox Charges Against
- ury Recommendations
to Political Offices
Judge Maddox, Lis charge to tho
grand jury, has departed from the
regular routine, but ho has struck the
key note, mid should be endorsed by
eVery eounty in the State. •
Judge Maddox, in his his charge,
directed the grand jury to exclude
politics, such as endorsing and reoorm
‘mending c«^|lidatcs tor office m their
presentments, This is a move in
the right direction, and overy jndgo
in Georgia should give the same
charge.
The taxpayers of tho county do
not know that they are paying so
much per word for the simple words
that “wo, tins grand jury, recommend
that our member to the legislature
use his evory effort to secure the
jglection of John Smith for solicitor
general, —A that wo tender to the
judge our warmest tnaiA,® t Ar his
faithful and efficient service.” This
is an old-time chestnut, and Judge
Maddox should be rewarded for
tweaking tho rule.
Judge Maddox has made a start
m the right direction in .this matter
and has shown himself to be a man
o f ccnviotiou aud ouo who is not
afraid to say what he thinks to be
right, either on or off the bench,
when thero is moie b usiuess done by
our grand juries and less political
•late manufacturing done by tbora,
our county will be in a much better
condition. A.
