est mountain peaks, routes of travel,

took up the work of the morning, and
the; deep ,interest evidenced by,our
colored friends went far to show that
they were “taking in the situation’,’
with a relish, and tilting .themselves
to be qualified instructors of their
kind. The- time has been short for
the work of the institute, neverthe
less, the good that has been effected
in this short time is apparent to'every
one, and it these Institutes would last
three months it would he a boon to
the great cause of education. - Those
of u- who have watched the workings
of the Institute in this ei y have been
impressed with the fact of its great
vale.eas a normal school, and especial
ly t he colored element connected with
this school appears tohavebeefi great
ly heneiitted'. The educators of the
South are trying hard to elevate the
negro, ainl though the progress may
he a slow one, yet a hea'lthy growth
is ui/servalile, which may yet arrive
to the nature of a man in. its most

In connection with its religious ele
ment, it very lmppily has business

poor will be tenderly eared for from

the ministry, in such a way that the
