PRiXTEHS’ DIFII.S.
Old Satan, both kind mid civil,
To efery printer lie gifs a difil;
I3ut, balancing ackounds each Vinter,
For efery difil dook a printer.
Mrs. C. H. Varner is ill.
S. A. Sellars is sick with fever.
BEDSTEADS, in variety. Call.
15. A. Strange.
Farmers are housing their corn and
report that the yield is satisfactory.
We have had an almost unprece
dented pleasant month for gathering
crops.
C. R. McCrory, who has been con
fined to hi3 bed with lever for three
weeks, is up again.
We have seen western rye sown re
cently that failed to come up. Buy
only Georgia raised rye or make a
failure. Who lias any for sale?
Some farmers speak of housing their
potatoes for fear that rain M ill cause
the sap to rise in them by delaying,
and cause them to rot when dug.
All home markets defied. Call.
B. A. Strange.
Judge B. A. Strange lias erected a
most attractive and comfortable colo
nade in front of his store and around
on the north side.
Correction. —In our last issue wo
stated that J. 11. Stevens, Tax Collec
tor, would be in Ellaville every Thurs
day instead of every Saturday.
Sheriff T. B. Myers is on the look
out for county boarders. He proposes
to furnish board and lodging to select
guests from now until Court, free.
As cotton picking is not in much
demand and rations are rather high,
it would be well for farmers to keep a
close watch over their sugar-cane
patches.
Last Saturday morning when Dr.
J. N. Cheney told Ilenry Dearseau
that it was a boy, he reared back on
his dignity and said, “Still another
vote for Crisp.”
GROCERIES! The place to buy.
Call. B. A. Strange.
Those who contemplate running for
county offices and handing in their
cards had best not delay too long. It
is evident there bill not be anything
made by delaying and you are likely
to lose.
We know 7 of a lady who by the aid
of her two little boys, six and eight
years old, has picked four bales of cot
ton up to date, besides attending to
all of her culinary work. Who can
beat it?
We find that it is a general feeling
among the farmers to, not in the fu
ture, sign but few notes that will be
due sooner than the first of Novem
ber, following, unless the right kind
of weather and plenty of cotton pick;
ers, cheap, are insured. A better plan
would be to live on bread and water,
for a while, at least, rather than sign
many notes at all.
Some of the Ellaville merchants are
receiving an unprecedented stock of
goods, and we expect those who con
template handling theiristock fast will
surprise the natives through these
columns before always. Keep on the
look out, for a merchant will not in
vite you to examine an old high-priced
shabby stock of goods, but leaves you
to go on your own accord.
It has been a custom for the last
several years, for the people up on
Buck creek to furnish the Coroner for
the county; but as that people are so
law abiding that they never need the
Coroner’s services, and as there is
neither money nor honor in the office,
and the people in the lower portion of
the county furnish all of the work for
him, we think as a matter of conven
ience the people above ought to hold
off and let the people below 7 have one
convenient to his work.
SHOES! SHOES’!! Call, they are
going. B. A. Strange.
Mr. Ben. H. Wilkinson, of Sum
ter county, has secured the Ellaville
school for next year. We have been
personally acquainted with Mr. Wil
kinson for five or six years, and know
whereof we speak when w r e say that
we can truly congratulate the patrons
for securing such a gentleman to in
struct their children. He is well
qualified. Morally, he is a model
young gentleman, and will add to the
circle in which he moves. Here is
my JB@“ for your success, Bennie.
A few days ago while Mr. G. D.
Hays was tearing down his old crib
preparatory to build anew and larger
one, a large rat ran up his pants leg
and when it reached the seat it brought
a halt and began to bite. “Doss” did
not know what it w : as, but caught it,
pants included, in one hand, crushing
every bone as he bounced his two
hundred and twenty-five pounds of
avoirdupois up and down in terrific
speed, addressing his good wife, one
cry after another, in “good God,
Georgia.” She thought her husband
had suddenly became crazy and was
afraid of him.
FOR TAX COLLECTOR.
Thankful for past favors I again offer my
self as a candidate for Tax Collector of
Schley county, hoping that the good citizens
of the county will appreciate tpe afflictions
of myself and wife and give me their sup
port in the coming election.
Yours, very respectfully,
anglltde J. If. STEPHENS.
