How blest are those who walk within
Straight Democratic ways,
For many elections they shall win,
And merit a peoples’ praise.
How blest are those who recognize

Who list not to Republican lies,

A few days more of fair weather
will open all of our cotton that will
be white.
G. D. Hays lost a barrel of syrup a
few days ago, by carelessness, from
allowing it to fell out of a wagon.
\Ve a.'e informed that it goes on
record that Verge and not Bill
Smith is the bailiff of the 285th dis
trict.
Schley is utilizing her fine potato
crop by potato bread and biscuit, be
sides feeding hogs, mules and cows
upon them.
The County Commissioners of Sum
ter county have a very crazy bridge
near Barlow’s Mill, for Schley’s citi
zen’s to pass, over a deep gully.
Judge J. H. Bivins had | of an
acre in cane, from which he made one
hundred and seventy-one gallons of
syrup, besides saving twelve hundred
stalks of seed cane.
Comparatively’ speaking, Sells
Bro.’s show only attracted a very
small remnant of Schley’s citizen’s,
and if they ever come again they will
hardly get a spectator.
Notwithstanding “ye local” is a
Walker, he is put to a considerable
trouble and inconvenience in getting
up the News since he has become a
walker; however, we hope to soon be
on wheels again.
When we see a contributor to a
paper who uses a nom de plume, the
first idea that occurs to us is that the
writer is aware of the fact that his
article will have more influence over
any other name than his real one.
A Schley’ county bailiff advertised
for sale some property that was levied
upon; the same property was levied
upon with a fi fa in favor of the same
bailiff, and after waiting the notice of
sale of the first levy, on the outer side
of the posted notice he wrote one of
his own levy’s on the back side in
which he began thus: “the folerin
property spesified above is also levied
upon with fi fa issued from” etc. This
is the work of one who has been in
office about fifteen years.
Your Last Chance.—The follow
ing is Tax Collector J. H. Stevens’
third and last round: Lickskillet,Mon
day Nov. 27; Hart’s Mill, Tuesday 28;
Willis Little’s, Wednesday 29, from
ten to twelve a. m., and at Murray &
Collins’ store from two to four p. m.;
Stew’art’s Mill, Thursday 30; William
Hickey’s, Friday Dec. Ist. The tax
books will close the first of December,
and to save the painful duty of issu
ing tax fi fas, and to save the cost,
you had better not be too late. We
have published the appointments
that none of our readers may have
any excuse for not paying their taxes,
and to-day there are three-fourths of
the taxes uncollected.
