FOOD FOB THOUGHT.
Improvement in the daughters will
best aid in the reformation of the sons
of this age.
Religion is reproached with not being
progressive; it makes amends by being
imperishable.
What is defeat? Nothing but edu
cation. Nothing but the first step to
something better.
Morocco, peopled by the finest Mos
lem race in the world, is entirely closed
to Christianity.
There are many men whose tongues
might govern multitudes, if they could
govern their tongues.
The fountain of beauty is the heart,
and every generous thought illustrates
the wall of your chamber.
It is not enou h to have reason; it is
spoiled, it is dishonored, by sustaining
a brusque and haughty manner.
What stubbing, plowing, digging
and harrowing is to land; thinking, re
flecting and examining is to the mind.
Don’t live for yourself, and do not
be afraid of diminishing your own hap
piness by promoting that of others.
Charity is a virtue of the heart—not
of the hands, and gifts and alms are
the expressions, not the essence of this
virtue.
Men are sometimes accused of pride
merely because their accusers would be
proud themselves if they were in their
places.
Some people are nothing but money,
pride and pleasure. These three things
engross their thoughts, and take up
their whole soul.
By rousing himself, by earnestness,
by restraint and control, the wise man
may make for himself an island which
no flood can overwhelm.
Many are ambitious of saying grand
things—that is, of being grandiloquent.
Eloquence is speaking out, a quality
few esteem and fewer aim at.
One ought to loye society if he wish
es to enjoy solitude. It is a social na
ture that solitude works upon with the
most various power. If one is misan
thropic, and betakes himself to loneli
ness that he may get away from hate
ful things, solitude is silent emptiness
to him.
A slender acquaintance with the
world must convince every man that
actions, not words, are the true criteri
on of the attachment of friends.
Heartfelt sympathy without a tangi
ble accompaniment will never alleviate
tho pangs of hunger nor clothe a shiver
ing wretch with comfortable clothing.
What men want is not talent—it is
purpose; in other words, not the power
to achieve, hut the will to labor. La
bor judiciously and continuously ap
plied becomes genius.
“A Blessing in Disguise.”

No family should be without
Allcock’s Porous Plasters; their
healing powers are wonderful and their
efficacy far reaching and lasting. For
years past I have seen and known
them to cure and relieve the most ob
stinate and distressing cases of rheuma
tism, kidney complaint, bronchitis, neu
ralgia, lumbago, inflammation of the
lungs and throat, paralysis, asthma,
spinal weakness, and coughs and colds.
In my own case they have afforded me
almost instant and permanent relief.
My friends consider them an invaluable
and speedy remedy for all kinds of
aches and pains. They are a blessing
in disguise; and no wife or mother
should be without them if she values
her peace and comfort and freedom from
nervous exhaustion and other ailments.
Asa strengthening plaster, also for
backaches and weaknesses, they have
no equal. I have never yet found a
plaster so efficacious and stimulating,
or to give so much general satisfaction.
Used in connection with Brandreth’s
universal life-giving and life-healing
Pills, no one need despair of a speedy
restoration to good sound health.
Mrs. E. Tompkis*.
He is most to blame who breaks the
law—no matter under what provoca
tion be acts.
Monroe, Mich., Sept. 25, 1875.
Sirs —l have been taking Hop
Bitters for inflammation of kidneys and
bladder. It has done for me what fonr
doctors failed to do. The effect of Hop
Bitters seemed like magic to me.
W. L. Carter.
Fortune lost, nothing lost; courage
lost, much lost; honor lost, more lost;
soul lost, all lost.
Ayer’s Ague Cure acts direct
ly on the liver and biliary apparatus,
and drives out the malarial poison
which induces liver complaints and bil
ious disorders. Warranted to cure, or

It is easier to do something some
one else is at, than to perform your
own allotted task.

ELECTRICITY. —Of all the known
Electro-Galvanic Appliances of the present
day it is now conceded by the Medical Fra

HALL’S
Vegetable Sicilian
HAIR RENEWER
was tlio first preparation perfectly adapted to
cure diseases of the scalp, and the first suc
cessful restorer of faded or gray hair to it*
natural color, growth, and youthful beauty.
It has had many imitators, but none have so
fully met all the requirements needful for
the proper treatment of the hair and scalp.
Hall’s Hair Renewer has steadily grown
in favor, and spread its famo and usefulness
to every quarter of the globe. Its unparal
leled success can bo attributed to but one
cause: the entire fulfilment of its pivmises.
Tho proprietors have often been surprised
at the receipt of orders from remote coun
tries, whero they had never made an effort for
its introduction.
The use for a short time of Hall’s Hair
Renewer wonderfully improves the per
sonal appearauco. It cleanses the scalp from
all impurities, cures all humors, fever, and
dryness, and thus prevents baldness. It
stimulates tho weakened glands, and enables
them to push forward anew and vigorous
growth. The effects of this article are not
transient, like those of alcoholic prepara
tions, but remain a long time, which makes
its use a matter of economy.
