Is honoring our town with a visit.
We are in hopes his stay may be
pleasant and lengthy.
Wo were sorry to learn that
Asa Prior and that “fine old bald

at that young lady so publicly last
night. Well, we were calm enough
not to do any “winking,” hut don’t
l»lamc them much.
The R. R. will undoubtedly
make its appearance before many
months. When three such men as
Capt. McClutchey, A. (I. West and

the expense nets saury to complete it,
you may depend on it, it is no hoax.

The above named company played
in our town last night, and without
either fear of punishment or hope, of
reward thereof, we unhesitatingly
pronounce it a good show—the best
thing of the kind ever seen in our
town. Everything is carried on

Every wise and patriotic far
mer should take three papers at the
yerv least. Liu should lake his local
paper because of the important ad
vertising service it is rendering to
the particular section in which :t is
published, and for which it exists;
he should take an agricultural paper
that ho may know all about the la
test improvements in his business,
that he may keep his ideas bright,
and that his sons and daughters, if
he has any, may learn to love coun
try fife through an acquaintance with
its literature; and he should take
one of the groat political weeklies—
something thoroughly cosmopolitan,

aud did space permit, wo would dwell
on tho respective merits of each song,
good many of which deserve eulogy
from a pen more gifted than our own.
We can not refrain, however, from
noticing the peculiar sweetness of
melody that was disclosed in the song
“Drifting With (lie Tide,” rendered
by Miss EllieSimmons, and the class
in chorus. It was rendered well,
very weil, and it was one of those
songs which shed the very soul of
music, and whose sentiments, thus
accompanied produced a harmony
that lifts ns lo an atmosphere pure
and serene, “suffer tliitu tlie West
winds sigh,” and makes us forget, for
a while, even our selfishness. The
amateurs of our town acquitted
themselves to a considerable advan
tage, and to them we feel indebted for
much of our enjoyment.
