A Trumping Typo.
We had a call the other day from :.n
amusirg specimen of tho tramp class. He
was a clever-looking fellow, and behaved him
self very well- During the last four months
he had set type,in every State in the South,
and in all his travels, mostly by rail, he had
not paid a Cent for transportation. He com
plained, however, of the had acc i mmo.lations
in the box cars, and didn’t like the persistency
of conductors in putting him off. He par
ticularly objected to the way in which some of
these gentry used their boots, but was of the
opinion that with a, good sole-leather patch to
his breeches he would be able to go on to
Louisville.
•John ltobmson.
Old John Robinson’s show passed
through Conyers, on the Ga. R. It., last Satur
day, the 22nd inst. They performed in Au-,
gusta the day before ; then bioke up, and left
for their homes in Cincinnati, Ohio, where
they expect to winter. The Old King of
Showmen had along about 350 people, 100
horses, GO ponies, and numerous other animals
and birds ; besides the elephant and clown.
They attracted considerable attention here.
If the band had have stinck up a lively air,
and tho gentlemanly ticket agents had said
"procure your tickets for the entertainment,"
Old John could have had a good crowd in the
Queen City. Th: Elephant took a couple of
clutws of tobacco while in our City.

Editor Rockdafe Register:
It has become necessary for me to come be
fore the Public to correct a report, circulated
.about me, by one T. D. Guinn, of Covington,
accusing me of reporting the absence of Miss
Dudley, the former operator at that place, and
having her discharged.
In reply to this, I will only give the public
the words of Sup •rintendent Mr. J. A. Bren
ner, of Augusta, in a communication to me.
They are these : “As regards Miss Dudley I
had no report from you, nor was it necessary
from any one.”
In a second communication of T. D. Guinn’s
he made some very grave threats concerning
mo, and which he has hud both- ample time,
and opportunity to carry into effect. But
as you well know, he has withheld, for causes,
I suppose, best known to himself. As regards
these threats, I will notice them as coming
from one who can write such, but who has not
dared to repeat them personally, for the chance
has been given him more th an once to do so.
But he “always had some oxcu.se, such as a
lady in his charge, and could see me at a more
opportune time.” This is all I have to say at
present. I have proofs of the above, which
any one may examine by calling on me.
I am Very Respectfully,
Jambs P. Tilley.
The Party at Col. McKniglits.
Alter a ride of about eight miles over
some of the roughest roads you ever saw, and
some not quite so rough, Ihe party from th s
place had halted in front of the residence of
Mr. B. N. Me Knight. For good old-fashioned
hospitality, Mr. McKnight with his good lady,
can’t be beat. His beautiful and commodious
dwelling, situated upon an eminence on the
far side of South River, seems the the very pic
ture of ease and comfort. With energy and
enterprise, he n akes a success of whatever he
undertakes. It is well worth ones time and
trouble to walk through and inspect his exten
sive Flouring and Saw Mills, and Carding Fac
tory. In connection with this is attached a
work shop in proper trim, and in every respect
all right. Mr. McKnight understands how to
economize labor with machinery. i
When we arrived, we found that quite a
number had already assembled, and we were
not long in making ourselves agreeable, and
altogether in a right jolly good humor. Ev
eryone seemed to *exert themselves to contri
bute to the pleasure of the occasion.
Capt. Huson, with his “leetle fiddle” wis
soon brought into requisition, to make music
for a few short dances.
Music, dancing and sprightly conversation
occupied the time, until near eleven, when we
were invited to supper- And “right royally
did we feast.” It is useless to make further
comment on this; for all who know Mrs. Mc-
Knight are well acquainted with her art of
fixing something nice to eat. A wedding U[ -
per coilld hot have been more perfect. After
suppter the parties returned to the parlors, to
enjoy themselves iil -arieus ways, until the
“wee small” hours ayant the Itva.
Of course, there wag no courting or flirting
going on, as there never is on such occasions :
just ask Hal what ho thinks about the mat
ter.
Space will not permit comment upon the
charms of every young lady separately; and
how can wa make a distinction when all were
just as ha dsome, charming, and as lovely
| as possible.
The next morning, about ten, wo headed ouv
| grays for Confers.
j To Mr. & Mrs. McKriight and Mias M., wo

Lieutenant.
