.i Facts For Prof. Tice.
Tuesday night was the worst of the
winter. The vinl ra o ed wilh great fury all
l ight long.
/About half past four o’clock, last Saturday
morning, a heavy squall struck Conyers on the
West si'e, apd waked up things generally.
During the disturbance a murky, sultry state
of atmosphere prevailed, and a number of
electric lights were plainly visible in low and
swampy localities. In one five of these
Jack O Lanterns were faj running in differ
ent directions.
ItiiMiiess Cliangc.
Wo regret to .uiimmoe that Messrs.
J ones & .Carswell have closed out their busi
ness in Conyers. Dr. Jones left for Macou •
'ast week, and his recent partner, Mr. A. W.
Carswell, Went to Augusta, last Tuesday
night. We are truly sorry to lose such good
Citizens. They mad* a host of friend* durihg
their residence here. Unit they' cavrf fo "ibnr
new homes the cordial esteem and.best w ishes
of our community. We learn the drug store
will remain at the’ old stand, Messrs. Hurt,
Itaukin snd Lamar, of Atlanta, having p ur
chased the stock and good will from the 'for
mer proprietors. Mr. Avory is now in charge,
a’ld the public will find him both enterprising
and accommodating. We welcome him to
Conyers.
a j
He Deceit ert us.
In our last week’s issue we gave our
readers a description of a tramping typo. The
party in question had an abundance of chook,
and was moreover a gooduatured fellow well
calculated to get on in the world. But we had
a visitor, last Tuesday, who belonged to anoth
er cla sof tramps. He was a printer, it is
true, but sixty-five houri of starvation hail
robbed him of all his assurance and self-asser
tion. He wus uttorly miserable. All that he
wanted was enough morphine to take him out
of this vale of tears. He said he was in oead
earnest about it, and enquired the price of th <t
drug, V e took a good look at the man, and
came to the conclusion that he would keep his
word. Tho temptation was too much to be
misled. We gave him the money. But there
were no suicide here on t hat day. The fellow
didn’t even visit the 'drug store. He went
hack on bis word in the most reckless manner,
and took the next train down tho road, We
have lost all confidence in the tramps species.

Valuable Information. —A few days
ago, 1 learned from Mrs. Neal, an intelli
gent lady of this county, that tainted
meitt, njay be saved by the following
process :
Take the bones out of the meat and
dip each piece, say, three times, into a
large pot of boiling, water made very
strong with salt and red pepper (the
more of both the better) then cool it .off
by plunging each piece into a vessel
of cold water.
As the water gets warm (and it will
become heated by the dipped process)
pour it out and put in a fresh supply ol
cold water again.
Having first dipped each piece three
times in the boiling water and then after
the third dip, cooled off as etirected,
the meat being hung up and smoked
will be fit (or use.
At such a time the above receipt may
be worth knowing. H. Q.
