We need something of the sort relieve the monotony of the hard times. I Dr. \V. 11. Lee has a large lot of Gar den Seeds on hind. He has everything that anybody could desire in this line, and now is tt e time to attend to such matters. 1 “The Farevt ell Remarks of Hon. Pot- Tengreen” in yesterday’s Constitution is the richest thing that, we have seen in print for * long time. It was from the versatile pen of fata W. [Hte Few County -Judge and Solic itor. At a late hour, last night, we learned at Gov. Smith had appointed us. G. W. leaton Judge of Rockdale County Court, and r. T. J. Christian Solicitor. Hotels. Things are made quite lively at the different trains, by the porters an .1 drummers af our hotels. The “Whitehead” and “Belay” souse both seem to be doing well. The Y. IVI; C. A. We are glad to learn that tin prospects of the Young Men’s Christian Association are growing brighter. At their meeting, last week, eight new members were admitted. Excellent speeches were made by Rev. J. L. Stewart and A. M. Helms, Esq. Our last week’s not'ee ot the extraois dinary doings of the hens in this vicinity has brought Jhdson Hay good to the front. He boasts of a hen that hatched a rooster last year, and hasn’t weaned him yet. She and the rooster are now engaged in hatching twenty-four eggs. Tint Young Men’s Christian Associa tion of Covington have adopted Sankd-y & B iss’ gospel songs, and “haven’t the means to get them.” They appeal to some good sis ter or Brother to give them five dollars to be used in the pm chose of song books. A delegation of Western farmers and mechanics will pass down the Georgia Rail road, in a few days, looking out for a place to locate a colony. It would be a good idea to have Arch Stewart intercept them, and set forth the natural advantages and beauties of ftockdale. Booth. % Several of our citizens visited Atlanta, ||this week, for the purpose of seeing Edwin ■Booth in his masterly renditions of Hamlet, ■Richelieu, lago, and other characters. ?They Returned well- pleased with what they saw and ■‘•-aid; DIED. | *^ l- Uatton, an old man. died very Suddenly at the residence of Mr. W. Two members of tho Register force wllit on a scouting expedition last Monday. They visited Hampton, McDonough and Peach Stone Shoals, and on their return gave a glow ing account of thosV foreign ports. Our Hen ry County neighbors are a hospitable people, and knoW how to make strangers feel at home. The Wild Boy 01 tho Georgia Press gave Conyers a notice in the last number of the Covington Enterprise. He says that “Con yers is too big for her breeches." Now, this is too rude a remark for the W. B. of the G, P. to make. It would have sounded better to hjpt that Conyers had increased her dimensions to such an extent as to render her too large for her undersleeves. We commend this style of criticism to the W. B. of the G. P. Founds Mr. C. T. Harper, found a good sized piece of cheese, 2 or 3 pounds, nicely tied up in brown pape”, a few days Bince, on tho streets of Conyers. It was evidently the pur chase of some head of a family and at the time Mr. H—discovered it, it was in imminent danger of being destroyed by a large sized hog. Tho owner can have, by calling at Mr. Arch Avery’s, and proving property and paying for this local. Oovvus & Langt'drdv A walk through the establishment of this popular firm, a few days since, showed us a large number of elegant and substantia! w agons, buggies and other vehicles, all finished and ready for sale. Messrs. Downs and Lang ford have put down prices to suit the hard times, and are selling at wonderfully low rates. Like other business men they want to get hold of some cash, and they would take it as a favor if some of their customers would come forward and settle up old accounts. ♦ ♦ * Special .Turors drawn tor Spring Term, of Rockdale Superior CoilH> lor 1870- .Tames Thomason, Alford F Sims, II C Taylor, E L Turner, A A Turner, Madison Tucker, L L Waldrop, E Wooly.
