As usual, Jutors, parties, liti gants and witnesses were prompt in at tendance ; and counsel, as their cases were called, announced ready, or showed good and legal grounds lot cause ot con tinuance. The first case called was one rather celebra ed, being that of S. F. Scott vs. Alfred Taylor, ejectment and injunction. After occupying two days, the jury re turned a verdict for a small amount apiinst the defendant. The tranqm'ity of the county would be greatly benefit ed if the matter would rest here. Other matters of little public impor tance have been disposed ot ou the civil side of the court. The Gas? of the State vs. Isham Kelly, charged with the offense of being an ac cessory in the assassination ot Captain Hardeman; in Newton county, a few years since, aud which was transferred tiom Hi at county here for trial, was con tinued for the term, and the defendant discharged upon his own r^pgnizance. Editor Register: This is a rainy Sunday mdfning, and we venture the assertion; that a rainy Sunday morning brings more disap pointment than aiiy ot nature’s contri vitjees. 1 knew before I got out of bed that iVe (fere having an East rain. I felt it in my head; I care not where I am, mV head always apprises me of the whiter teering from any point of the to the East; an East wind gives me, as well as half ot the inhabi tants of this latitude, a headache. If you don’t believe it, and want evi dence, say to every one you meet, to day, that your head is aching, and it halt Of them don’t respond “ so is mine,” then I will treat you to anything you will have tor your trouble. I brawled oiit of bed this morning, early; for I was rriad. lam always mad when itiy head aclie's In the morning— (l merth from natural causes) I under other circumstances I only teel penitent, and vow to do so no more; alter turn, filing over two or three chairs, and poking my head against a pine-board manilepiece; tor a counter irritant; uot intentionally, however. I reached a window and looked out eastward, arid saw .Confirmation of the pain in triy head in a driving East wind and rain—looking eastward front my house o'n a rairiy morning—the prospect is anything but eheeiingj and especially so at this seasofl, when there is uothing tti be Seen but unfurtiished turnip-patches, arid a vveary waste ot old fields, only occasionally rehersed by a stunted pine. I wanted to hear Dr. Smith prerich to day. So did many other of odr cliizeris, as well as myself. It is a great treat to hear this able divine. Leaving the Church after one of his sennons, I al ways feci a wiser) —and to my shame— Charles Sanford, S. F. Speer, F. S. Treadwell, J. T. Swann, Geo. W. IT pshaw, U. 13.. Vaughn, S. J. The rain this movniiig has disappoint ed all who wifufeli to hear him—and I was about to say the Doctor, too —but I won't Hay tlt%t. A man ot his age and philosophical tliiud and true Christian character, can Hoe a highet Providence in a “ rainy Sunday” than a little temporary disap pointment of sight-seeing aiul church going people. , . . v A rainy Sunday n turned to gdod account it the inactivity it produces will bring our thoughts honlo to loost. It is compulsory leisure we citn't devote to much else, as well as putting the inind in a frame for selt-inspeolioU) iu a dispas, ion.ate way. Such days as this takes the elasticity out of our mental organism, as well as the starch out ot our manners, and the texture of the pure fabric becomes af forent; in other words, weakness, ar.d bleufslies are more easily discoverable. Another assertion and wo are through. A rainy Sunday morning is production of more good to a greater number ot people than all the sermons preached on a brio Ilk Sunday morning.
