Id this issue we present to our readers
the general presentments of the Grand
\!Ury lor the Spring Term of our Supe
rior Court. They requested the pre
sentments to be published—provided it
would be dene for ten dollars. That
amount may be too much or too little.
The thing we object to is this: The
Grand Jury regulating our prices,—and
theirs, too. They say their services are
worth two dollars a day. They ought
to let h say what ours are worth.

Deaths.
Mr*. Selina A. Few, relect of the late
Kev. Ignatius A. Few’, the fipst President
ot Emory College, died in Decatur last
Friday, aged over 82 years.
Mr. Jacob Weipe* - , one of tho oldest
citizens of Newton coua’y, died at his
residence a few miles North of Coving
ton, on yesterday morning, aged 81
years. Mr. Weiper was boin*in the city
of Hamburg, Germany, and was soldier
under General Blutcher, at the battle ot
Waterloo. He lias been a citizen of
Newton county for many years, was a
member of the Methodist church, and
was much beloved by ad wt o knew hirn.
Ilia remains was buried at his old home,
r ear Starsville, yesterday.— Covinffton

Rockdale County Court, for the April
session, convened on last Monday, Hon.
George W. Gleaton, Judge, T. J. Chris
tian, County Solicitor.
ScTetal case* were disposed of by set
Cement between the pat ties, or judgment
ot the court.
After the civil docket Was gone
through with the criminal docket was
taken up, and the parties tried were
usually convicted and sentenced to pay
the customary fine ot t 926 00 and costs,
or go to the chain-gang lor mohtbs.
A few cases were cotiiltiUed, and Will
he tried on the 4th Mohday ill this
month—together with the cases trans
ferred from the Superior Court. Par
ties will take due notice.
The court adjourned on Wednesday
morning, after impressing the public, aS
well ns ourselves, that the presiding offi
cer, as well as Mr. Christian, were the
right men lor their respective places.
Judge Hall issued the foliowing order
on last Wednesday. It explains itsell

Superior Court.
"Tiie Spring Term, 1875, ol Rockdale
Superior Court adjourned last Thursday
evening—till court in course. Several
cases were tried and disposed ofj or,
"ere continued by the court for the
term. No criminal eases were tried;
and all indictments found by the Grand
Jury below the grade of felonies were
transferred to the County Court of said
pounty.
Jbere was about fifteen “ true bills'’
[found by the Grand Jury, —mostly mis
demeanors.
Judge Hall, ns usual, dispatched the
business of the court in an acceptable
manner to tho country and the parties
interested.
Col. L. B. AmLrson of Cnviip'lon,
acted as Solicitor lilbst of the time
Copt. T. B. Cabinit-s being in court only
about one day.
Several attorneys from a distance were
in attendance at the court; among the
number was Maj. Hulsey of Atlanta,
whose name was left out of our last is
sue owing to the late hour of his arrival.

journ in our midst. Col. Stephens was
married on the S'li instant, at the Ham
ilton Manor, in McDuffie county, to Miss
Mamie Hamilton. Col. St'phens is a

We find the public roads in good con
dition; when taking iiito consideration
the very Le;lvy Mills, with mile po ste
and finger boai ds set up.
Bridges in good order. The removing
of rafts required at McKniglit’B bridge.
The Court House, only, of Public
buildings; ueediUg some repairs, in the
way of glass and chords to windows.
We recommend the taking in charge,
by the County, ot two' bridged crossing
Honey Creek, one at Hollingsworth’s
Mill, and one at or near the place ot G.
W. Walker, half a mile or more from
Smyrna church.
Also recommend the taking chnl-ge; by
the Road Commissioners, of about one
mile of road, now open, leading by the
places of William L. Peek and David
Vaughn, connecting the Stone Mountain
road with the one leading to Salem
Camp Ground, from Conyers by the
place of W. L. Peek, Esq.
We recommend the seedling/ by the
Ordinary, of a policy of insurance in
scitie good company, to the extent of
foUr thousand dollars (354 000) on the
Court House for twelve mouths. And
the adding of the names ot Mrs. Flemt
ming, Mr. VV. Rooks and George Mo-
Kui“ht (P- o. o.) to Rockdale’s pauper
We find tha dockets of the Judge of
uur County Court, and the Magistrates,
properly kept. Also, the boolcs of the
Clerk of the Superior Court,’ in a neat |
and orderly condition.
Would recommend the indexing ot
the Sheriffs judgment docket, and a
more complete record of li las placed in
his bands.
We have examined the books and
vouchers ot the county Treasurer, and ■
I find the disbursements legal, and cash on
hand, at this date," seventeen hundred,
ninety seven dollars and 35 cents.

Titx Collector.
The Ordinary, we find systematic, and
orderly in his accounts and office.
Members elected to act with Ordinary,
for county board of health, Doctors J P
Rosser and CII Turner. And to fill
vacancies in county educational board,

Stewart, Jr.
We also recommend the assessment of
forty per cent on the State tax, for the
year 1876, viz: Fifteen per cent for
county i>ui'poses, fifteen per cent tor pay
ment of Juiors, and ten per cent for
paupers.
We feel gratified at the expeditious
manner in which Ins Honor, Judge John
I flail, dispatches business ; and return
to both, him and Col L B Anderson, So
licitor, pro torn, our thanks for courtesies
extended to this body during the term.
We request that those general present
ments be published in the Rockuai-k
Register, provided tho same can be
done for ten dollars.

We take pleasure in announcing to our read
ei s that Mr. Taylor, the photc graphist, has
secured the services of a first-class artist, Mr.
Henry Murphy, who will remain here for two
weeks only. Mr. Murphj is having a large
skylight put in and the gallery refitted
throughout, suitable for first-class work. This
is a chance seldom Offered to the citizens of
this county, the opportunity of having first
class Work done at home; it saves the trouble
and Expense of going yourselves and carrying
your children to the city to get work done ;
and oven then, pei haps, not get pictures to
suit you. We say, then, if you want good pic
tures taken of yourself or family, come and
get your work done while Mr. Mul'p' y is in
town. He will open on Monday, April 18th
