Y)nr schools ave doing finely. Read This. Pay the Register Company what you owe for last year, or for advertisements this year—or you’ll be stud. Look out. Bo \nd ok Edccati >n.—This body met on Monday last, and fixed the time and p ( r diem of the Comity School Commia sioner for the present year. We ea’l special attention to the notice of the Bible Society, on Sunday, 30th inst., and hope to see a crowded house and plenty of money. It is a good cause. Rockdale county has more candidates and less treating, than any county we know of. Office seekers should be lib eral men, and onee in a while when they see a man thirsty, they should give him a drink. See the notice of the Atlanta Con stitution, in this issue. The proprietors .pfbpose to send the Weekly Constitution from now till January next, lor one dol lar. It is one of the best papers in Geor gia. Give them a call and get a “regular Ytd-hot campaign paper.” Personal. Dr. J. 11. White, formeiJy of Florida, hut more recently of Atlanta, is on a visit to Conyers with some thought of locating here. The Doctor is a son-in law of our townsman, &Ir. D. S. Butler. We hope he will like the place and con clude to settle here, for Conyers is large enough to give us all a home. Sael -Accident, We regret to learn that little Katie daughter of Dr. 11. 11. McDonald, re ceived a serious injury by falling and sticking a knite in her face, just above the left eye, on Wednesday morning, of last tveek. We hope she may soon cover. Conyers, not to be outdone by Cov in'- ton, had a regular knock down and frag out fight, last week, between two < f nor leading young men. They foul ind they fir, they gouged and they bit. l’oys, i.’s wrong ; don't do so any move. Our merchants are having a somewhat lively trade in the line of Spring diy goods. The ladies wit! have their new Spring outfits, let come wiinf lhffy\ “Dimes are dollars and dollars arc dimes,” but a good advertisement is a thing fjr the times. , May Ck.i,e::atio>* —The following is Ihe programme .of the First Baptist Church Sunday School for the May Cel el ration, on Saturday', ijday Fie 6th : Song—“ Praise the Giver of All.” Speaker—D, C. Langford. A. N. Lawson, Sup’t. Thanl^b Col. S, K. Johnson, Superintendent ol the Georgia Hallroad and Banking Com pany—one of thp best institutions in the State—will please accept our thanks tor late favors on the lines of the Georgia li. 11. under his control. * New School. . The people at and around the Pap'er Mill have erected anew building which is used for a school house. Miss Queen Overhay has charge of the little ones, ena has a fine prospect for a full school. The house is also used for Church and Sunday school purposes. Bev. J. L. Stew-art, of 1 his place organized a Sun day school there last Sabbath, with Mr. John M. Harwell, as Superintendent. We wish the netv institution in all its phases prosperity, and a career of hon or and usefulness. j. . Personal. Hon. John J. Floyd, of Covington, was on a visit to Conyers Monday, of ibi.e w-yek. .The Judge is a prominent candidate for Congress, in., this District, w ith a fair prorpcct of being nomina ted. , r si. ~ sl. ... From May to November we will fur nish The Register to subscribers for One ibollar* each. , From June to December* the barae figures. Now's YOE'E TIME TO GET A GOOD PA l’Eli CHEAP. Sl..' §L Someone, either unthoughted, or base, wrote on a paper directed to Rev. E B. Lofton, -pastor of the colored Methodist church, who is a subscriber for the Register, words not only insult ing to him, but calculated to impress him with the idea that said indignity was offered by the manager of this pa per. We can assure him or any other subscriber of the Register that any one connected with the same guilty of such miscounduct would loose his situation as soon as it was known. Divme Services. Rev. 11. Quigg, Pastor of the Pros byterian Church here, occupied the pul. pit of tl at church on Sunday mo niniim and night of this week. -At the First Baptist church Rev, J. M- Brittain Pastor, offh-ia'ed* both at iudfning and night services. Itoekelate Bible Society. Conyers, Ga, Apiil 25th, 1876. At a meeting ot the officers ol the ijiockdale Bible Society, this day held, the following resolutions were unani mously adopted: Resolved, That each church in the county he requested tc take a collection (or the benefit of this Society, and tor ward the amount collected to S. 1). Night, Treasurer, at Conyers, by the 3rd Sunday in May next. Resolved, That a meeting of the Bi bb Society be held at the Methodist Church in Conyers, on Sunday, the 30th inst, at o'clock, p. m., ami that all who are well wishers to the Society, and ecg ecially all church members in Conyers are are requested to attend on that occa sion, as a collection for the Society will be taken up at that time and place. J. M. Brittain, Pres. J. C, Barton, Sec. —— -• -■ - ■ Courts. Rockdale County Court, for its April session, convened on las* Monday, Ilia Honor, G. W. Judge presiding, and T. J. Christian, Esq., County Solic itor. Seveial cases were disposed of either by pleas of guilty, or trial before the Court without a jury. Judgment of the Court was generally either guilty or not guilty, but most guilty, with the usual fine ot twenty-five dollars and costs, or three months- in chain gang. De lendants in two eases demanded juries: Lewis Zuchry, p. o. e„ for disturbing Divine Worship, and Henry Strickland, po. e., for assault and battery. After argument had, (so vailed), the parlies were found not guilty, and ought to have been recommended “not to have done so any mole. 1 ’ Court adjottVned to the eight of May Crops, &c. We notice in our travel to and from McDonough, bst Week, that the wheat and oat crops were fine. In fact, wheat is as good as is ever seen for the time of year in this section. If nothing happens to blight the, hopes of our hard working farmers, middle Georgia, if this portion ot State is any indication of how the crop will be in other localities, will almost be self-sus tahiing. The farmers along said line aie working manfully, and seem to be fur ther along for ihe time than in seveial years back. If the seasons are propi tious, and farmers continue on as ihey have begun, the harvest will be plenti ful. “Sow that you may reap,— Work, and faint not— Labor, and wait,” and your reward will come bye and bye. A trip to McDonough, especially with a genial companion, is one of the best things out. Henry Superior Court. The Apiil Term of ITt-nry Superior Court was in session last week ; Hon. John I. Ila'l, Judge presiding, Capi. T. 15. Cabiniss, Solid or General. Besides the local bar, consisting of Judge Geo. Nolan, C<d. G. W. Bryant and T. C. Nolan, the Hampton attorneys were on hand, to-wit: Cols. Hart, Keagan, Nelms and Reid; Judge Floyd, Coving ton; a couple from Conyers, with a fall delegation from Jonesboro and Griffin. Several cases were tried ; an impor tant one against the Central Railroad, with a verdict for nlaintifl for $3,500 ; another one, originating in Hampton, being the case of Turnipseed, et al, vs P. E. Brown, Deputy Sheriff, and Ex of ficio High Bailiff of Bear Creek; ver dict for the defendant. Other matters were disposed of, ot minor interest to the people at large, that we think best to leave out of this report; The guests of .All's. Burner (who) by the way, keeps one ot the best tables in middle Georgia), were greeted with a nice serenade and musical treat on Wed nesday night by the Messrs'. NPlans. file Register, as well as the court and bar, hereby return thanks for the same. Court adjourned on Saturday. Confers, Ga., April 25th, 1876. Editor Register Sir— As a party at interest, aiid as one who has been watching the workings of the Ga. R, R., beg leave to call attention to the promptness, energy and efficacy of Col. S. K. Johnson, as Superintendent. His selection has proved to be a good, one, and the stockholders could do no better than to see that his valuable services are procured again for the road. With the best wishes for the prosperity of ou!‘ llerister, which I consider of very great importance to this community, I remain, .Yours truly, Stockholder. Union Agricultural society. APRIL 23bi>, 187 G. Honey Creek’s most efficient Secreta ry was with us at our last meeting to confer on tlio “propiiety of having a County .Fair” ; and you jtV ed not be surprised to see a grand display about next November. , H CKOr REPORT. Wheat and oats looking fine, and a large area ot both crops sown; early corn, abotlt throe-fourths of a. ,stand, and looks fine, and largo crop planted ; cotton planting about over, and the crop equal to lasi year ; in fact, it is but jus tice to say that we are making a heavier effort in sll crops, except cotton, than we have ever done before. We have used more manure, and bought less of it. We have used about, 200 tons of ma nure, and 175 of that 'compost. We have,# ived ten per cent, on the aggrev gate by purchasing a club. We have in all of our community but two loafing negroes, and omy one mean white man ; and wo would not call him meanil he bad not interfered with his neighbor’l lianas. Yours truly . Plow Bov, P.
