The committee also agreed on Wed neday, the pecond day of August neat, and Atlanta, as the place, to hold a con vention, to nominate a candidate fori Governor, and also to appoint presiden tial electors. As the time has been agreed on, we hope the parly will harmonize, and work tor tho best iiitere°t of democracy, Geor gia and tho United States. IV hat is our county Executive committee doing CAPITOL. The talk of removal, and non remov al of the Capit >1 from Atlanta, back to Millodgeville, is distressing several of oui contemporaries. Let that issuo rest for the present brethren ; its not now before the coun try ; we have more important matters t’ml concern, or ought to concern us. Let us unite, and harmonize, and elect a Democratic President, Governor, menu bets of congress, legislature &c. That will not only benefit us, but the people of tho wole country. If we can do that, * democratic suocess is capitol enough. MANEAMUS. This city to day was stirred by tho enactment of a tragedy which is almost without a parallel when we consider the youth of the principal actor in the life drama, or her coolness and determination. She was a bright and pretty girl, and had a host of friends. Iler temperament was such as to forbid the her evei attempting to take her own life, and many are yet loth to believe that she did it ententionaly. Almost since her biith she has been with Miss Mary Hodges ol this city, whom she loved like a mother She w;is a pupil in thc,Oo!umbus fein.iie college, and about fourteen years of age. The facts about her death seem to be as follows : Miss Lillie Harrison, daughter of Rev W. I’. Harrison, early this morning tried to get a daughter of major Allen ,to ac company her to the river, but Miss Allen declined to go with her. She also desired a daughter of John Harnett to go with her. She wanted to go in swimming and said SHE IJIIJII T CAKE IV SUE ,WAB LOST ami wanted to be. She proceeded alone to the river but returned to Mr. lJ iruetis with a hat ot Miss Allen's. She tried to get a negro woman to tarry the hat back to Mr. Harnett's as she DID NOT IV AJT TO SOIL IT as it was M tss Allen's. She announced her purpose ot self-destruction. Ibe negro woman refused to take the hat and endeavored to dissuade her from destiny jug herself, ttlie cauio Luca to the second time. A luau named Jaivei Names followed her as he feaicd dutigei .She ran down the bank at the foot of St Clair street, turned around, laughed at I the man, opened her collar, LEAPED FROM THE ItOCK \ into The stream ami was seen no more. Names was otily 3 short distance from her. This occured about 11 o’clock a. in. A Vigorous search is being made tor the body, but at t):3i) p m it bad not been found. All are at a loss to conjecture the cause of her action. Some think it BY BEI'IJERBTONT created by a scolding letter from her father, but there is no tact going to establish such an idea. All hearts sympathise with her strick en and bereaved family and from every Christian heart in Columbus, without regard to denomination, goes up an earnest, sincere prayer that God may richly bestow his grace upon them to bear it. Mr. Jotin Seay, a citizen of Jackson county, 80 years of age, who often said that he had never been sick in his life, died last week, going oft'as he had lived, without sickness, having been in appar ent good health up to a few minutes before bis death, lie was one of the most esteemed citizens ot the county. That barrel of Hour shipped by A. C. Bell ifc Cos., from Americas, arrived safe ly at the Centennial, and created much interest. The wooden heads were punch ed out and glass ones substituted. It was the first barrel ol new flour exhib ited in any market during the present year. AN HISTORICAL FACT. Every agent who has Veen steadily selling the Improved $-0 Homestead Sewing Machine for throe years, owns his dwelling house, lias a good account in bank, is clear of debt, and has ! money at interest, —tho natural consequence of securing a good agency for superior goods at tho lowest prices. There is no ma chine at any price better, or that will do finer or more woi b, and certainly none so low in price by many dollars. The Homestead is wide ly known and used in thousands of families in the Eastern and Middle States, and daily be coming popular in the West.
