Macon, July 13, 1870.
Editors Telegraph and Messenger :
It is evident from the returns of primary
meetings in different counties that I am
not the choice of a majority of the citizens
of Georgia for executive honors. Rec
ognizing this fact, though other counties
yet to act would add to iry list of sup
porters, it. would not change the result.
It would therefore be folly in me to con
tinue longer in the canvass, thereby in
juring my friends and creating unneces
sarily, further division in the democratic
party. Believing as I aIo, that the will
of the majority should govern, I can not
consent to remain longer |in altitude of
seeming opposition to that will, re*
lying npon a contingency that might
happen under the operation of the two
thirds rule, to thwart it and thereby
place in position someone who is not the
choice of the people, I cannot be a par
ty to any such arrangement; for it is
against my sense of justice and right,
bowing submissively to the verdict of the
people. In so doing I would not inti
mate to my friends, who have been se
lected in my interest how they should act
in the premises for I am woll aware that
their intelligence and patriotism will
guide them in that line of conduct,
which will result in good Jto the party
aud benefit to the people. In retiring
allow mo to say to those counties who
have honored me as their choice, 1 mean
all that language will convey, when I
say I heartily thank you for your gen
erous confidence. To the press I return
my grateful acknowledgments; to
sonio for their disinterested support, to
others for the manly courteous and kind
opposition they have given me. True a
very small number have by t heir per
sonal allusions and unkind insinuations
injured me but in doing so they have not
elevated the obaraerter ot their journals
or grown in the esteem of a fair minded
people. To those friends who for months
gave me encouraging assuranace of confi
deuce and support, then abandoned me
nnd joined my opponents, I will only
say I lreely forgive you, knowing as I
do, that human nature cannot withstand
the blandishments of position and the
allurements of office. To the demoorltic
party I would speak one word. Let not
envies or jealousies enter your ranks and
divide your forces. The contest we are
about to enter requires united efforts to
insure a victory. In the past I have la
bored zealously for harmony in our
ranks, knowing that it was essential to
success. For that harmony I would
sacrifice personal ambition to-day— pre
ferring party success to personal eleva
tion at the expense of that party: I
•hall therefore not ceaso my efforts in
that diiection in the future, but as a pri
vate in the ranks, wilt still he found ever
willing to strike with ‘with might aud
iaiu’ for democratic unity and victory.

Considering the number and variety ol
poisonous reptiles and insects, abounding
almost everywhere in the United >tates,
it is not surprising that cases of death
resulting from their bites are frequently
recorded in the public press. But it

large number of bona fide certificates in
their possession, attesting the most won

The Seven Seals has been tonnd
equally efficacious when applied, to bee
