It is right and prop t r that they should define their position in regard to public issues of vital import Unco, but no necessity of their coming before the people with a striug of pled ges as long as a yardstick. A candidate cannot intelligently commit himself to the details of plans which he does not fully undesrtand. When he takes his seat in the General Asrembly, and meets a blc men from all parts of the State, it is very probable that ho will see many things in a different light. New facts will coma to his kuowltdge ; his mind will expand to broader views of public policy, and his original predilections an I prejudices will be very much modified. Especially is this tr<le of a man who is just public life. Candidates L . L 1 • * * * make but veiy few pledges to their con stiuuents. It they are the projiet men for the places they seek no pledges are needed, and if they are not the right men, all tho pledges in the world will amount to nothing. The above was taken from our con temporary, the Courier, of last week. We adopt it as sound wisdom, uud com mend it to our candidates general'y. GEOKQI A —Roc dale County.
