Most any other small City would call them “Belles ” Cotton is opening rapidly, The fleecy staple will fleck our streets. Let hei fleck! Rockdalians sometimes stop talking about politics and stoop to talk of the Centennial, the weather, the crops, or the ladies. What a condescension ! F. D. McMillian exhibited a fiue sam ple of cotton, ginned on his Gullett Gin, yesterday. H. 11. Parks, of the Atlanta Comtitu* tion force, was in this place yesterday. Rev- W. D. Heath, is attending Salem Camp Meeting. The merits and demerits of the nu merous and various candidates are being discussed by our would be politicians pro and con. Dn J. 11. White has been sick for two or three days of this week. Did you ever hear of ho many candi dates ? A certain man in Rockdale, that has been dissipating to an alarming extent, consmded to take the oath of total ab stinence. .May God grant him courage and resolution to keep it. Cotton crop is short one half in Rock dale. Several Conyerites have been visiting Salem Camp Meeting this week. One square meal a week is as ranch as a nnngry local ought to-have. ’’ \V e got 1 one on Tuesday. J. R. Langford has bought an inlerest >n the ‘-Eldorado Bar,” and is now in charge of -the same. Give him a call. Tuesday was legal s-dc J y all over the State of Georgia. No property of any kind was sold by the Slnriff hero on that day. Slodio won’t play checks with Lishe Maddox, he says Lishe is out of practice. A. J. Haygood left for Oconee, coun ty last eveuing, on a visit to relatives and friends there. Trade in Lithonia is reviving. We hoist the name of lion, James II Blount, as a candidate for Congress from this district. From a special dispatch, we see that he was nominated at Mill edgeville on yesterday. Mr. George Wise was nominated tor the Legislature by the Democrats oi Henry county last Saturday. Elias Woolly, Esq., concluded to an nounce himself a candidate tor the leg islature from this county on last Monday, which lie did. But after consulting with the “Oracles at Delphi,” “the pow ers that be,” the spirits of earth, air and water, the people, “the power behind the throne greater than the throne it-, self,” the cleik of the weather, old prob abilities, the great Mogul, and other no tabilities of this and other ages, and they all said : “Nay’, not yet; your time has not come: wait. So Mr. W. decided j not to run. He withdrew his name from the contest; and things are now as| they were—Carr and Peek have the j field. • A few more candidates had better consult the Oracles, and come down at their biddings.
