Whitjhead will please accept our thunks for the favor. — - A sister and brother-in-law, of our townsman, James W. Pruett, died in Savannah; a few days ago of yellow fever. A rule to distribute money in the County Court, was heard before James W. Pruett, as Judge, pro htac vice on last Saturday. The rule was in favor of A. J. Pierce et al, vs. T. J. Nelms. Mo ney was distributed acooiding to priority of liens. Judge B, F, Carr has been appointed Notary Public and Lx. Officio Justice oi the Peace ol the 475th District, G. M., ot th s county, by Gov. Judge G. J. Wright, ol the Al bany Circuit, presided. The business of the court was not fully gone through with. We have not space to give the cases tried. Thirteen on the common law docket were disposed of, nine on the appeal, two on the equity, nine certio iari’s, three motion*. One or two crim inal cases were ssltkd by consent yf the court. . The grgnd jury found ten.true bills. Several important cases were continu ed lor the term. Col. J. N. Glenn acted as Solicitor General. Ihe Isham Kelly case is set for the second day 0t iu-xt court. All of the misdemeanor cases will probably be transferee! to the County Court. The people of this couuty, lawyers, doctors, sheriffs, bailiffs, officers of the court, and citizens genera ly, witnesses, as well as parties, were well pleased with Judge Wright. The grand jury preset)'ment are pub lished in this issue. Out’ people can see for themselves what our county authori ties and officers ate doing. - Solicitor General. The Grahd Jury of this county last week, in their general presentments, reo "inmended that his Excellency, A- H. Colquitt, the next Governor <>f Georgia, appoint Judge George W- Gleaton as Solicitor General of this, the Flint Judi cial Circuit. The recommendation is a fit and prop er one j and while we would not ds parage (he claims of t hy other applicants for said position, we wou and most respect fully urge upon Governor Colquitt the fitness of Judge Gleaton for the place} He is a one-legged Confederate soldier, and a young lawyer of ability and indus try ; besides being a man of unirnpeaclia„ ble moral worth- This port cn of the Circuit, and es pecial y Rockdale, has been neglected in the giving out of State and Federal of fices. The defeated should bear up nider their losses, and the victorious night to tor forgive and forget the differ ences of the past. Now let us all strike hands and unite in one solid phalanx for the great struggle that domes off Tues day, the 7ih day of November. THE FAIR A ride out to the Rockdale Fair Grounds behind. Capt. John M. Zach y’s fine clay bank mare on Tuefld ly after iiooii w .ts mi enjoyable tt Ip. We found the workmen busy at work under the supervision of Capt. A. F. Simms, The grounds are nearly enclosed ami contain aboil*, eight acres. Mr. Newton Hoi* lingsworlh has given the Fair Associa tion the use of the ground for live years,for tin palings and one or two of the buildings at the end of that time. He is to have the use of the grounds and buildings when they are not occupied by the Association. Three lulls are in proaeH of erection, viz: Floral, Agri cultural and Mechanical. Fifty-six rtallfl tor stock of different kinds, Bx 9 feet, have been built. The hotel or eat ing house is nearly completed; and will he ready for the public by the time the fair opens. The race track is over a quarter of a mile found, the inside raliug being exactly one fourth of a mile. It will be put in good order by tin time it is needed 1 Tne Judges’ stand is on a high point near the upper portion of the grounds, where good views can be had of the whole line of track. Two wells have been dug and will supply plenty of good water, tor man . and beast. Two entrance gates will be sufficient lor all the passing in and out, as the pass-ways are broad and several can go out and in at the same time. The entrance fee is Fifty cents or $1 25 for a season ticket Cheap enough tor the times taking into consideration the sights to be seen. We hope every man, woman and child, in Rockdale county and vicinity will be on hand. The Rockdale Fair Association are making great efforts to do good for themselves and their people, as well as to please the public. Let us all go and see and lend a helping to the enterprise. B, B. Oonyers Female College, Oct. 1876. County Court. Rockdale County Court, tor its semi- October term, was in session on Monday. [Present: Jidge G orgo \V. Gleaton, T. J. Christian. Solicitor. Judgments were rendered in three or four civil cases ; there being no defenses filed under oath. In case of the State vs, Ben Torn— charged with disturbing Divine woiship —defendant was found not guilty by the jury. Christian for the State, A. M Helms for defendant. In the case of the State vs. Jack Glea ton, | . O; c., Justice A M. Helms pre sided, and the defendant was found gm ty and fined twenty dollars anu* all costs, or in default to work in chain gang ten mouths. Jack appropriated $9 85 out of Capt. N. W. Maddox’s drawer. Roek.la’e Court of Ordinary for its October term was in session on Monday of last week. Present i Hon. Obadiah Seamans, Ordinary, Leave was granted P. N. GRAND JURY PRESENTMENTS. We, the Grand Jurors, chosen and 'sworn for the October term of the Su perior Court for 1876, ask permission to make the following report, to-wit: We have carefully examined the pub lic buildings; we find them (with two or three exceptions) in good repair. Some of the blinds, and the railing of the stair-wav in the Court House needing some repairs ; also one iron bar on the inner door of the jail broken off. The public buildings, and jail especially, are neatly kept, and as well ventilated as the nature of the case will permit. We would respectfully recommend the Ordi. nary to put the buildings tn good and thorough repair. The Justices’ of the Peace and Notary Publics' books are all correctly and neat ly kept, with proper entries of their ea - ses and how disposed of. The Sheriffs' Docket is also riea ly kept, with the proper entries of their acts and doings in fi fus, aud docket in in terms ol the law. We find the records of the Clerk of the Supeiior Court correctly and neatly kept. Also the Ordinary’s records are neatly and correctly kept, with all proper en tries showing all ot his acts and doings. We also find in the hands of the Ordina *• ry 5 dollars in currency and a note on 1). N. Hudson due Ist Nov., 1876, for sev enteen dollars and forty cents. We find that the Treasurer had in his hands, in currency, on the third of April, 1876, 81797 35, md the additional sum ot nine dollars received from the hands ot the Clerk of the Superior Court, nut king the sum total of SIBOG 35. We also find that he has in his hands proper vouchers tor sllß7 00 paid out, leaving a balance in his. hands of $61(1 35, and Lia hooks alts neatly and correctly kept. We find the roads all in good condi tion, with mile posts all up, and finger boards up at cross and fork roads We also find that some bridges are needing repairs, and respectfully recom mend that, the Ordinary look after these bridges and put them in good repair at as early a day as practical)'©. We recommend the Ordinary to grant an order to F, J. Whitehead, Sheriff, end hi- 1 Deputy, J. W. Almand, 50 dol lars each lor their services tor wailing upon the Superior Court (or the four terms of its sitting during lite r term ol office. We also I'ooommerifi that Lucinda Cook, a pauper, he paid $5 OU per month instead ot ten dollars as now paid.— Also that Mrs. Kirkland, a pauper, be paid $5 00 per month instead of three dollars as now paid. We also respectfully recommend that the Governor elect appoint Judge Geo. W. Gleaton as the next Solicitor General for this Judicial Circuit. In taking leave of hi? Honor, Judge G. J.
