OBITUARY.
Died, in Convcrs, October 27th, 1870,
little A. Beck McClelland aged 2 v“ars,
10 months and 14 days. As wo silently
gazed upon her dear 'iitle form, chil'ed
in the very morning of life by the icy
hand of death, how mvßleri'is appeared
io firs that Providence, which plucked
from home such a sweet flower. Precious
little gem ! thv prattling feet and charm
ir.g voice filled home with the sweetest
melodies. But, os the untimely frost
impresses with fatal kiss the opening
flower, so dealli embraced this lovely
child with relentless hold. She died of
membranous crop. T.ittle by little the
membrane enlai ged, until breathing was
impossible. Tbe child seemed to he
aware of her condition and would erv
on* “T am choking, stand me up,” etc.
Utile Darling, your troubles are over.
No more will your body be tortured with
pain. Where vou now are, all is peace
nr.d qntot, perfect freedom froin all ill.
Wave vonr hcavmlv plume in the eease
less light of the Lamb, and await our
coming. For we expect to sco thee
again.
Dear Parents, wo know you will
mourn, this is natural; but as soon as
possible wipe away vour falling tears.
Remember it is well with the child. He
who doeth all things well, has onlv called
litile Beck home. Now, vou are directly
connected with TTenven She has gone
before, and her little hands which von
have ho often pressed, may he the first to
touch yours on the Shining Shore. Your

Brick Store Fiuf-
Owing to a pressure of business last
week, we were unable to attend the
above named fair more than one day.
Friday we bad the pleasure of boarding
the down extra train, in charge of con
ductor General Sam Perkins, in company
with our friend E, Thorn,Esq. of the
\Vhi‘ch“ad Douse. At Covington we
were reinforced by liras. Jim. Amlm-son
and Si Hawkins of the Star and Kntcr
prise., together with four nr tivq of the
fair ones of Covington and vicinity. Wo
arrived at Paines ero sing in duo lime,
and in company with Judge T. of both
Jasper county Ga., and the land of or,
nnges and other tropical fruit', a i l Mow
ers, we seized a vihicle ot a Spirited
Jehu, and away we went over the hills
to the fair ground. Being armed with a
complimentary alias dead-head ticket.
The pondrons gate at the entranse to
the grounds swung wide on its hinges,
arid we were at and in the Brick Store
Fair. It is not our purpose to tell what
we saw there only to return thanks to
the managers and others cmneeted with
the affair for memerous ccurtesi* and
favors shown us on the grounds and
elsewhere before and since, " c con
gratulate our triends of the B. S. F Asso
cia'ion tor the very marked improvmenl
since the first, o’ last year's fair. Though
last year's was good enough. VYe loir
ri<d!v went through the different de
partments and found the numerous dis
plays tastefully and systimutirally ar
ranged, showing that no Paines had
been snared to mn'-e it a success. Wc
make thts rem-uk Gravely.
At five l*. xt. we took a two mule
wagon and with whip and spur and such
other modes of increasing speed as we
could devise we reached the X ing (the
train being behind) in time to board it
for our return borne. Putting ourselves
in our conductors keeping, we sat down
to think of the pleasant day spent at the
Brick Store Fair.
Death by His Own Hand.
Mr. Nehemiah Easly, of Walton coun
tv, committed suicide at Smith's mills in
said county on last Saturday by shoot
ing himself. lie was near thirty years
old, clever and promisiifg, till the demon
of strong drink took possession of him.
We have been unable to gel the partic
ulars of the sr.d tragedy. Though we
understand he had been dissipating for
several days previous to his death and
had been on a spree with Joe Tom Liv
sy, that killed himself the night before,
m Atlanta. VV e gather about these facts
in relation to the morutul affair. He
was at tbe Mills drinking and threate
ning to kill himself. He went off about
60 yards and pulled off his shoes and
stockings, and deliberately took a dou
ble barrell shot gun that he had with
him, put it to his right temple; pulled
the trigger with his toes fired and put an
end to his unhappy exhistencc.
“Ills soul lias taken its earlldess flight.
Whither, we dread to think,
But lie’s gone.”
Llis relatives and friends have our
heartfelt sympathies.
