This time at the resi dence of Mr. Webb M, Almand. If William More, ot {’ e Vng.ista Con* aiitutio xaliat, will call lime within the next six weeks we will insure him a baud in the next lasses bilitrr. “YYil lie, we have missed you. Come. To rent or to board is the question that is now agitating the average Con yetsite. W hether it’s better to pay high prices for old houses or eat com mon hoarding house hash. “Aye, there's the rub.” We regret to learn that Mr. J. B. Gra ham, of this collnty, lost about $1(30 00 at the Circus last Friday. Some Circus or other kind of rogue stole the money from him. We certainly sympathise witli Mr. G. in his loss, especially when money is so scarce. Mr. Jack Wood had a tustle with a thief on the same day, about his pocket book containing near sixty dollars. Jack managed to grab the scoundrel before he got off with the money. Though he re ceived several gashes on his band. No one comiugJo the rescue, the thief man aged to make his escape—though Jack held on to the money “like grim death to a dead negro.” The impression seems to be that some of old John Robinson’s crowd was the perpetrator of the act, not only ot attempting to take Mi. Wood’s money, but in taking Mr. Gra ham’s pocket book and contents. The Commissioners of the town of Conyers met at tlieir chamber on Mon day night. Present: Hons. S, F. Speer, Chair man, J. H. Almand, J. W. Langford, N. W. Maddox and W. E Treadwell. The main business of'.he meeting was for the trial of parties whose names were legions, that were up before the court, charged with every grade of crime known to the statu'es of Conyers, and otherwise acting disorderly within her sacred precincts or corporate limits. Hawing all confidence that justice was done in the premises, we omit prelimina ries, and say to the guilty, pay up and get your clearance papers, and to the in nocent, go thy way for this lime ; in a more convenient season you may be call ed on. Dr. A. C. W. Travis, the efficient Clerk, closed the docket, and Marshal McCollough adjourned the court till the court in course—with a God save the State and the Commissioner's court. Old John Robinson had a very cold day for his show to show here sure enough on last Friday. But his show showed show (sure) enough. John Low low said all the fools were on hand ; sen sible proplc stayed at home by the lire. The Covington Star has a long, inter., esting letter from Conyers in its last is sue, written by Miss “Alpha.” We thought of copying it, but after thinking of the number of Stars taken, and oth erwise, in and around here, we thought it would be sufficiently circulated and read without it appearing in the Rnois ter. We hope so, Having heard from Miss Alpha, we would hate to miss heal ing from Omega. “Alpha and Omega, The first and last.” ♦ Brother Jim Anderson, of the Cov ington Star, is not satisfied exactly with all the persons nominated as candidates for county offices. While he has no objec tions to the gentlemen (as men) that were nominated for Treasurer 'and Coroner, still he objects to the “newly converted" being raised to the first positions in the front rank, at one lift. Ah, Jeemie! you may be wrong. Re member the new convert is the most zealous; and the good Book says that he that comes in at the eleventh hour is en titled to as much pay as he that bears the heat and burden of the day. Don’t ccn deran them, Brother. Rather welcome them into the joys of true Democracy. Tell them to sin no more ; and with more patriotic hearts, remember in the future, theit country too. Miss “Annie Logan’s” presence lit up the sane 1 tun of the Rkwjster on last Monday. She came in as sprightly and as chirping as the “beautiful bird of epriug ” She has been stopping with Misses Frank and Georgia Baker and other friends and relatives in this place. She left, on the day we speak of, for the olassic banks of Yellow river, to bask awhile under ihe hospitable roof of Dr. S. W Bryan. Miss Annie to!d us a heap about the young folks of Conyers, especially the young men, and tho pleas ant times she had while here; though she made us promise not to tell; there tore, “mnm’s the word.’’ Though, we would like to know what she is going to do with all the pictures she received while here. She appeared very happy ; notwithstanding, she is threatened with a very severe Hales storm. We wish Miss .Annie success and happiness in all of her laudible undertakings ; and, es pecially, may all her literary efforts be as bright and sparkling and as meritorious as her own warm heart could wish for. Partio b indebted to me must pay up. A. O. McUalla. Newton Superior Court, for the Sep tember adjourned term, met in Coving ton on last Monday, Judge John I. Hall presiding. The civil dockets are being cal'ed. But little erim’nal matter will be taken up. Only one or two prisoners that are in j lil will be tried. Court will close oil Friday or Satur day. Editor Rkoistek : This is truly an exciting time in our national polities, and the scales is nearly on a balance. Stunt'd the Democracy Ir.ok down, the Republic is gone in this our first (Jenfeii nial year. But it we listen to the out spoken populace. Uncle Samuel will take his seat, and the Republic move on for years to come without war ; and one hundred thousand office-holders will take the hack seat, and the same number come to the front. Now shall we be hopeful of an appointment, and bo still expecting something to turn up that we may get our living without labor, or shall we go to work and make an effort to build up the county ? Let us not forget the source of our food and raiment. Let very enterprising man uud woman in Rockdale commence, right now, work to the point, and in the yar 1877, when the woild is at ease and peace, the grand est show that ever was seen will be at Conyers 1 Rock dark Fair. What a smell you have In your nose, it is all stopped up; get some of Dr. J. i . McLean’s Catarrh Snuff. It soothes, heals and will cure any disease in your nose or throat. Trial Boxes 50 cents, by mail. Dr. J, 11. McCkan, 314 Chet hut, St., St. Louis. The daily edition w ill on week days be a sheet of four pages, and on Sundays a sheet of eight pages, or 06 br, ad columns ; while the weekly edition will boa i shoot of eight pages of the same dimensions and character that arc alreudy familiar to our friends. The Sun will continne to lie the strenuous advocate of reform and retrenchment, and of th.e substitution of statesmanship, wisdom, and integrity for hollow pretence, imbecility, and fraud in the administration of public affairs. It will contend for the government of the peo ple by thn people and for the jieoplo, as op posed to government by frauds iu the ballot box and in the counting of vote3, enforced by military violence. It will endeavor to supply its readers—a body-now not far far from a million of souls—with the most careful, com pleta, and trustworthy oeconnts of current events, and will employ for this purpose a nu merous and carefully selected staff of repor ters and correspondents. Its reports from Washington, especially, will bo full, accurate, and fetar.eis; and it will doubtless eontiuuo to de ierve and enjoy the hatred of those who thrive by plundering the Treasury or by usur ping what the law doeß not give them, while it will endeavor to merit tho confidence of the public by defending the rights of the people against the encroachments of unjustified pow er. The price of the daily Sun will be 55 cents a I month ot $6 50 a year, post paid, or with the Sunday edition $7,70 a year. The Sunday edition alone, eight pages, $1,20 a year, post paid. The Weekly Sun, eight pages of 56 broad columns, will be furnished during 1877 at tho rate of $1 a year, post paid. The bent at-of this large reduction from the previous rate for tho Weakly can be enjoved by individual subscribers without tho necessity of making up clubs. At the same time, if any of our friends choose to aid in extending our circulation, we shall be grateful to them, and every such person who sends us ten or more subscribers from one place w ill bo entitled to one copy of the paper for himself without charge. At one dollar a year, postage paid, the expenses of paper and printing are barely repaid ; and considering tho size of the sheet and ti e quality of its contents, wo are confi dent the people will consider the Weekly Snn the eh eapest newspaper published sn the world and we trust also one of the very best.
