Conyers was well represented at the torch-light, jubilee in Atlanta on Tuesday night The Gate City, as is usual on all public and private occasions, did its whole duty, and as a matter of course, some of our boys, if not all all of them, enjoyed thertlseivcs hugely. [communicated.] Editor Rockdale Register: Dear Sir: —The weather lias been SO very disagreeable,(as you are aware, doub tless,) that I have not had courage to leave the house, except to visit a few very dear friends. Nevertheless, I see many visitors and as most of them are ladies, I hear some news. Weddings! yes. we are all—l speak lor the female halt of the town —in a state of almost breathless excitement over the wedding cards of Miss M. Virginia Anderson end Mr. Edgar D. Marlin. Only the rela tives of the bride have received invita tions. She will b'*come Mrs. Martin next Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock. It is rumored that one of our beauti ful neighbors is to be ItiattTed ? sooi>. No cards, as yet. Of course, we are just dying to know what the bride will be dressed in, but we never wonder if it will be “a blue satin slipper and a green glass breast-pin.” You, being a married man, perhaps would be more interested iu something other than weddings : elsewise I would give you a few more on dits. Last Friday evening I had the honor of being admitted to the ball in which the Good Templars meet. I remained with some girls and boys and a table of books, in a neat little ante-room until all business of importance was transacted ; then we entered the large, comfortable hall and listened to several sweet songs accompanied by organ music. Our dear and honored friend, Rev. J. N. Brad shaw, gave us a sensible, pleasant talk in bis usual warm heaited style. lie urged the young men to beware of the danger of forming a habit that is well nigh impossible to eradicate after it is once formed. lam sure ibis society is calculated to do much good ; it cultivates a refined sociability among the boys who might be prone to seek company in bilhard-saloons, it they were not thus restrained. I found the society of the Good Templets vastly enjoyable, and hope to have the pleasure of visiting them again, soon. Success to all such societies ! Si. Hawkins has made me one we“pop call.” lie’s gone now to a place where refreshments will be I hear. I hope he will not forget to give us ll e details on his return to his sanctum, By the way, the editors here are quite a mutual admiration society—between thera-selveS. 1 judge so from the fact that a singularly correct likeness of Si Hawkins adorns the most Jconspicious place in the cosy, little sanctum from which twinkling Star rays erninate every Wednesday morning, I have been re minded that I’m “auihorizd agent" for the “Star ’ B o I’ll write it [down bcfbie I forget it, it casts the same as other first class wei.kly , opt s. Several yo.mg ladies of Covington are visiting friends abroad ; among them is the belle of the city who is really one ot the most beautiful gir’s I have* ever met. There is no doubt but the present con dilion ot all kinds of business and in dustry is tearfully depressed, and it be hooves every family to look carefully at their expenses. Winter is coming on when children are liable to Ci-oup, Whooping Cough, etc. Coughs and Colds will prevail everywhere-, and Con sumption, with other throat and .lting diseases, will parry off many. Its reports from Washington, especially, will be full, accurate, and fear.ess ; and it will doubtless continue to deserve and enjoy the hatred of those who thrive by plundering the Treasury or by usur ping what the law does not give them, while it will endeavor to merit the confidence of tho public bv defending the rights of the people against t&e I'ncroachments Of iffijustified pow er.
