This voluminous document is before the American people, and we regret our inabil ity to prerent the same entire before our readers. The Messago is signed by the mute of the Executive Mansion—yet, it is evidently “ patch-work,” and shows a com bination of intellects in its mechanism. The first column is devoted principally, in a “spread-eagle” Fourth of July style, in recording the wondrous advances in Science, Agriculture, Commerce, Mining, Mechanics, Medicine,' etc., etc., we have made, as a nation, in the past hundred years. Ho speaks in the most glowing terms of our resplendent virtues as a people, yet is ominously silent upon our untold vices, party and national profligacy. TTTT , a i THE GEORGIA STATE ORANGE. This body was in convention in Atlanta last week, and, judging by published pro ceedings, still retains its vitality. The cul-, tivotion of cotton at the ruling figures seems to have induced a determination to ward self-sustaining farms for the year 1976. If the passage of resoliitious is an indica tion of progress, then the success of the meeting is placed beyond doubt. The labors of Dr. Thomas P. Janes, as State Commissioner i f Agriculture, are en dorsed and the Legislature urged to sustain this department, so important to the ad vancement of the material interests of our Commonwealth Cheap water transportation approved, and the bug-bear of all our former legisla ture—the Dog Law—fully and unequivc cal!y recommended. The receipts from Internal Bevenne for the veer end ing 80th M June, 1*74, were *109,409,784.90, and lor this year ending the 30th Jane, 1878. $110,007,498.58- en increase of $7,697,706.(8. The Peninsular becoming an active scene early in the war, the College was suspended, and Prof Morris was appointed Quartcimaster at the military post of Williamsburg, for some time the head quarters of Gen. Magrudcr. After tbe re treat from tbe Peninsular, he was trausierrcd to the Quartermaster-General’s office in Richmond, where he served as assistant, first to Col. Myers, ami afterwards to Gen. A. R. Lawton, of Savannah, till the end of the war. When the war ended, William and Mary College having been burnt down during (he occupation of Williamsburg by the Northern army, he resigned his profes sorship in tho ollege, and opened an Academy for boys in his native county. While engaged in teaching this school, lie was appointed Professor of Rhetoric in the University of Georgia, in December,-1868.
