I T IS AN ACKNOWLEDGED FACT,
not only with scientific aaricnltnriatt, bnt also farm
ers who have ouly a limited knowledge ot Agricultural
Chemistry, that Southern lands have, year after year,
been dnuned of properties which add to the vigorous
growth of staple products until they will scarcely repay
the Husbandman fur cultivation. To bring these lands
back to their original state of fertilitv has been the work
of scientists for a number of years. The Manufacturers,
after a thorough test, and with the endorsement of the
leading chemists of the country, take pleasure in offer
ing to the fanners of Georgia and South Caroline,
g OYSTER SHELL LIME,
as the cheapest and best Fertiliser ever introduced in
the States, and possessing exactly those properties of
which the land has, from year to year, been robbed.
As u Tor Dsxesoro roa shall osanr, it haa no superior.
Composted witli Stable Manure, Cotton Seed, Mack,
nnd all Vegetable Matter, it will make a manure which
wilt pennanently improve any land to which it ia
applied. F0H C0TT0N AND co j{ N
it ia invaluable, as it lightens heavy soils, makes them
more porous, fixes and retains tho ammonia of other
manures, neutralizes all acidity, consequently cansing
the plants to grow luxuriantly even daring droughts.
To fanners who have used Oyster Shell Lime, it is
useless to say anything of its merits. Those unacquaint
ed with its use, if induced to try it, will be gratefhl to
us for having brought it to our notice. Bead the fol
lowing letter from the Editor of the Sural Carolinian
in retard to the use of lime in composting:
CtURLXttosr, S. C., Feb. 15,1875
Star Sir : “ It gives me pleasure to be of service to
any farmer who desires to learn bow to make farming
better and more snccesathl, but you must not rely too
much upon any of us. We are only in the first lessons
of agriculture as a science. A year ago I should have
advised you, as others have, not to pot lime in yonr
compost. We have learned aeveral things within the
laat twelve months, one of which is, that lime and aabea
may be put into the oompoat with nitrogenous matter,
not only without damage, but with great benefit. A
little ammonia may go off from the aurfhee at first, but
in the course of the chemical processes carried on in
granted.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Broadcast from 5 to 10 bushels to the acre as a top
dressing for small grain-. In composting with cotton
seed, stable manure, mnek, and vegetable matter, for
nae on cotton and oorn, use from 2 to 8 bushel, to one
thousand pounds. The cheapness and facility of pro
curing this wonderfbl renorator of the soil ons- 1 -* *-
make it one of the first objects of the farmer (wh

way of e fertiliser or renovator has been found equal to
it, as proved by the increased yield of crop, and perma
