Beautiful Job.—We were shown last
iv-.'k a very liui Isom set of invitation of
the Athens Guards Complimentary Soiree,
given by Col. Allen V. Robison & Son.
The work was done in two colms, red nnd
fcrecn, comiilimentry colors, by the way, re
quiring the cards to pass twice through the
press. The job, which is about the prettiest
piece of workm inship we have ever seen in
Athens, was executed by Horace L. Cran
ford. Esq., at the Georgian office. This
gentleman, from New Orleans, is an experi
enced job printer and finishes all of his work
in i lie most artistic style.

We suppose the “ Imys,” will not' in their
rashness, preclude those who are suffering
with corn-from wearing coat plasters on their

Of course not. Nor will those who are
suffering from boils under their arms or el-e-
wlicre, lie com|ie))ed to pin their gallowses
up tight. *

which was given in the Georgian some

ami desolate, its floors and walls are bate, in
truth " the old placo ain’t what it used to
be.” 1
Our esteemed fellow citizen, Maj. M.
Stanley, was yesterday elected President
ot the University Bank. An admirable
selection.
I’rof. White’s lecture last night was a
grand success.

that ivv had straggled into all Old Fellow's

Runaway.—*, Last Friday afternoon
couple of mules hitched to a^wagon on Broad
Nrect, which were held by i small boy, star
'll off, and the boy quickly getting out of
upon “ our tcmpemnite enterprise” from an
acu»ni|ilished young lady of Clarke coantv,
both of which will appear :u our next. We
are always glad to hear Fiom our friends
through the co’ntnn* of the “ Geo giax.”
IIorsb Tii eves—This wandering bevy
o- Ali ftihhas with the r two-score or more
ofhorse thieves are still skirmishing around
in adjoining counties. Asa M. Howard,
Esq., of OglethoriHJ county, who lost three
horses by the gang, pursued them so tic
distance and recovered a colt which, not be
ing able to travel, tho tlii-ves bad aliaudon
«d- Another posse who tracked the horses,
in Walton county, in the direction of Social
Circle, telegraphed back yesterday, that
they were in about one hours ride of the
horses. It is probable however that the
thiev s have turned over their stolen prop
erty to other parties and have themselves
ieft for distant parts. Mr. Thos. Bro ks,
bailiff of 253-district G. M. who a'so pur-
sued the horse raiders some distance, states
that he has in iiis possession Charles Kel
ley’s shawl but is remarkably reticent upon
the subject. This man Kelley is one of the
most desperate characters known in the
annals of criminal depradalion and has a
very bloody record. Sentenced to the
Pententiary for life, for killing a man in
Jasper county, lie escaped punishment by
killing a guard. His brother Ed. Kelley,
who broke jail in Jackson county, jumped
while handcuffed from the train as lie was
being brought back to custody by the
Shenff of Jackson county. This same crowd
figures quite coiispiuiously, we learn, in
South Carolina, also, and carry on q lite an
extensive operation in stealing and trading
horses. Tlie gang is without doubt, well
organised and disciplined and quite large
numeric ally. Their depredation are carried;
on by night extensively, as they skulk away
in woods and hide like owls during the day.
Let a large reward be offered for tucin dead
or alive.
Moore, of the Constitutionalist, after
returning from a Rip roaring trip up t he Au
gusta Canal, pens the following and charges
it t<> us:
“ Pleas Stovall, of the At’iens Georgian,
misled by the warm dais of last
week, goes oft’ into the following extrava
gant predictions:
“ The gay and festive jaybird will soon
(ill the hillside with bis swelling strains, and
pluck the voluptuous Imppergrass from ie-
real luxui lance The variegated caterpillars
will soon vermieulate over ocoiferous con
tinuations, Tue thump of the woodpecker
as he goes after the xyoiopohagoits inillcpcd
will soon undulate the Spring morning.
As Phoebus retraces Ids course ilirougn ilie
zodiac, gently touching up recuperatii e
nature, me vindictive bee will gather treacle
from the petulant Primrose. Salubrious
Juue, with its somnific effect upou the juv
enile element, will usher in that spec -led
grazer, the fun-loving potato bug. Tue
blithesome jackass will espeapade on the
sward and pursae happiness in its various
ramifications.”
Scorning as we do any liability to the
charge of “ literary piracy,” we utterly re
pudiate the above. We uiih.sita.inglv,
therefore, throw ourselves into the arms o,
a sympathizing public, who, after perusing
these rollicking prophesies of the blithesome
Moore, will readily realize that the last
prediction lias been the first fulfilled.
