The Patapsco Company have just erected a very large factory here, where they expect to compound large quantities, making this the chief depot for the States of Georgia, North and South Carolinas, Ten nessee and Florida. As soon as good government is once again secured to this robber ridden Union, and trade settled in the prosperous channels, in which it was wont to flow, the pros perity of Augusta is insured ; this fact seems to be appreciated by a* com pany of English capitalists, by whom several hundred acres of land ad joining the canal, (just outside the corporate limits) have been purchas ed ; the property has been regularly laid out in lots intersected by broad avenues, and the whole effectually drained by magnificent brick seivers built beneath the surface; this proper ty is held by the company in the an ticipation of the erection of numerous factories, > when .the lots will coin- maud a ready sale, some oi them being fine sites for the building of mills .and the remainder, will be in great demand;as sites for the -crec- .tiou -eL houses for. thp, jCjperatives. E. Jones, agent of Carolina Cen tral Dispatch Line, will have at his office every morning a list of consign ees per. N. E. R. R. thus enabling merchants and draymen to ascertain the arrival of goods without the long trip to tbe depot. Mr. Jones repre sents a first class line, and will take pleasure in extending any information regarding through rates from the Eastern cities, and will promptly at tend to all business connected with the line which he represents. Our mer chants by patronizing his line can as sist in sustaining theN. E. R. R. and also a local agency in Athens, without any expense to them, on the contiary, it is a decided convenience. The public schools opened for the fall and winter season yesterday, and every child in Detroit felt happy for an hour or two, if not longer.
