The Greatest Yet.”
We ^rtri’ender innch 6f our avail*
able space, this morning, to - Judge
.Blacks’ letter, but after a perusal of
this mighty document, our readers
will not regret that we have. Read
it, every one of you. As a campaign
clincher, it is truly the “Greatest*
Yet.”
Elsewhere will be seen the an
nouncement of Mr. W. W. Price of
Oconee "county for re-election to the
potation of Sheriff. The people of
Oconee county as well as the Judge
of this circuit speaks in the highest
terms of Mr. Price a» a Sheriff, classing
him among the best of officers, and
we have no doubt lie will be re-elee-

We understand that the Iraelitish
Congregation iu this city, have raised
thirty dollars for the Savannah suf
ferers. This speaks well for so small
a Congregation, and is but another
evidence of their charitableness and
humanity. ;
Death of Mrs. Albon Chase.
We regret to, hear of the death of
this estimable lady, which occurred in
Atlanta last week. Mrs. Chase was
the consort of Mr. Alhin Chase a for
mer citizen ot Athens, the founder of
the Southern Mutual Insurance Com-
pa -, and the Southern Banner.
This good lady had many friends in
A cits, who will be grieved to hear of
her death
Jongs’ Tintimkbnalation.-As the
matrimonial season has been formally
opened, it may be well to call attention
to an excellent line of house furnish
ing goods now on hand af the tin em
porium of A. K. Childs and Co.
(Comer’s old stand.) Bill Jones, Esq.,
here has his sway, and has ornamented
his counters, stored his shelves and
festooned his walls, with tio->ware of all
kinds, needed in household econemy,
from a tin cup to a roof gutter. Those
anticipating keeping house, and for
that matt ertbose already in that line,
will do well to call upon Bill and ex*
amine his fine stock of goods.
“The Times,’’ a celebrated family
cooking stove, are all the rage now
among housekeepers—in fact, first-
class cooks will use no other. They
arc superior articles, and every
kitchen should be ornamented with
one. Gentle reader, don’t forget to
sec Bill Jones about them, at Comer’s
old stand.
Go Bp to-morrow at the new
Court-House and vote, or you may
regret it. «

Mr. A. B. Ewing of Lewisburg
Tennessee, now in the city, is repre
senting a metalic portable chimney
of iffuQjvn invention wliich those in
terested will do well to call upon
and examine. The chimney is made
of cast and sheet iron, weighs only
about 350 pounds and can be pur- winc *
chased for $25,00. He claims for his
invention many excellences, and
beside utilizing the hot air usually
allowed to escape, it seems to be
cheap and durable. Mr. Ewing was

While one half of our editorial staff
was talking politics at the Town Hall
last Thursday night, the other half was
politic enough to attend a most bril
liant affair at the residence of Mrs.
Ruckers in Cobblmm. The occasion
being the wedding reception of Mr.
Tinsley W. Rucker and his charming
bride, Miss Sarah M. Cobb of Athens,
a large and enthusiastic number of
acquaintances were gathered together
to congratulate the happy pain. The
reception of course was n delightful
one, and the. vast assembly was most
splendidly entertained in the elegant
Mrawing rooms of the bridegroom’s
hospitable mother. Together with all
the friends of the wedded couple we
wish them every joy. May their day
ot prosperity and happiness be long
and bright, and when the night comes,
as surely it will, may theirs be a crown
of stars.
It perhaps may appear a little re*
markable that the first piece which the
writer ever penned for this paper was
an account of a wedding reception, and
now the last which probably we will
ever inject into the Georgian locals,
is an item of a similar nature.

Col. S. P. Thurmond, Vice-
President and Chairman —Dear
Sir : I see by the pa|K!re that the
Executive Committee of Clarke
county have chosen me as permanent
President of the Democratic Club for
the ensuing year, and I regret that
circumstances are such that I cannot
accept.
. It is a most important and respon
sible position, and to discharge the
duties of it, will require more time
than my present engagements will
permit me to devote to it.
Please tender my i>nnks to the
Committee for this evidence of their
confidence, which I appreciate very
highly.
Yours truly, *
