with a needle upon a thread, as is
usual. Upon fiirlher investigation,
no tally lists were fouud, either in the

inquiry, “Did Governor Steairns tele
graph you?” he said “No,” but that
“lie had been told by a gentleman

Upon being requested io give the
name of that gentleman, he refused,
and has persistently so refused aver
since.
Thus, and in this way, these fraud
ulent returns were received, endorsed

dents—Redfield. of the Cincinnati
Commercial, and Carroll, of the New
York Times—to-day confessed to me
