Air. Moses Quarles thinks someone picked
his pocket while in town on Satuiday last.
His jiocket-book, containing slOl, some
change, cotton bills and tax receipts. i> lost
and he knows not how bis pocket-book was
missing unless his pocket was picked. Any
one returning said pocket-book to Mr. Quarles,
cr leaving it at this office with the contents,
will bo suitably rewarded. The pocket-book
was lirst missed at the stoic of Messrs Jim A
Free Stephens.
Our town was very much shocked eaily
Monday morning by the announcement of the
death ot Miss Eloise Stovall, daughter of Mis.
Stovall of this town. The deceased has been
sick lor two or three weeks, but was not con
sidered dangerous. Indeed, it w r as announced
that she was improving on Sunday evening,
and hopes were entertained that she would
soon he up again.
We have never seen more universal regret
at the death of a young lady. The spirit of
sadness pervaded the whole commuuKy on
Christmas day. The young people of both
sexes seemed to feel as if a bright star had
fallen front among them, Aliss Eloise was
a young lady highly gifted and her mind was
well cultivated. With a most aimable and
liveable disposition, she was admired and
loved by all who knew' her. It is not strange
that she was a favorite in society and that her
death is much 1 merited.
We nope someone will pay a more fitting
tribute to the men ory of the deceased—that a
pen inspired with a better knowledge of her
may indite, in more fitting terms, a tribute
more appiopriate than we here present.
