Hilliard is determin ed that Santa Claus shall have every thing he wants for the little ones, and for that matter the big ones also. A Card to the Public. After due consideration, I have made up my mind not to be a candi date for County Commissioner be cause I do not believe the office would suit me or I the office. There is neither great honor or profit in it. And then all must admit there is great uncertainty about one’s being elected. In addition to this there are several gentlemen better fitted for the position than I* am who want the place and the voters of the county might so decide, and I don’t feel line taking the risk in addition to my editorial risks. In fact it is too much like taking an insurance risk upon a gin house. It is just as uncertain. Therefore, in order to preserve my private integrity and personal honor, I think it best to ask my friends, who say I can be elected, not to vote for me. Respectfully, C. H. C. Willingham. J. J. Howard & Son. With a view of insuringabsolute security for all deposits left with us, we have purchased a large safe with Hall’s double time lock attach ment, which is absolutely impossible to open, except during the hours when it is desirable to open it. The safe is fire-proof and burglar proof. Merchants and others who desire a safe place for their accounts aud money, in vited. J. J. HOWARD & SON. —Mr. H. M. Mountcastle, of the firm of H. M. Mountcastle & Cos., has just returned from a trip to Atlanta, where he has been replenishing his already large and varied stock of holiday goods. He is determined that everybody shall be suited at his establishment, from the wee toddler to the hoary-headed sage. —The new of mayor and al dermen have elected Mr. B. F. Mountcastle, treasurer, Mr. George Cobb, clerk of the council, and re elected Messrs. Gladden and Wilker son, marshals. These selections will certainly meet with hearty approval. Mr. Mountcastle, former clerk, will be an efficient custodian of the public fund. Mr. Cobb, as clerk, is evidently “the right man in the right place,” a gentleman who will leave an admirable record. The marshals are well known for faithfulness and their great prudence. No other town in Georgia, we be lieve, has had less occasion to com plain than this. It is a pity that as public servants of their efficiency they are not more liberally compen sated . Dr. Bull’s Cough Syrup is particularly re commended for children.
