The Cartersville Express. TO PATRONS OF The Caitersville Express. TT is with much regret that a half sheet of The Express is issued this week. After a few words, by way of explanation, I am convinced my subscribers will indulge me. I was compelled to give up the quarters of Tun Express office in the Opera House building on account of neighbors objecting to the hum of machinery about them,—-it made too much fuss. Theu, too, machinery of any kind always retards the progress ol any town. Ileuce, with my entire force, I have occu pied this week in removing the office to the Large and Commodious Rooms, Over Roberts’ Livery Stable. Here the buzz of The Express presses is out of the way, and we expect to run them conscious of disturbance to no one, and sin cerely hope for the old veterau press, that has for a quarter of a century shed its humble amount of enlightenment over Bartow county and surrounding country, we may adopt the Alabamaical motto, Hero wo Host. Next week wc shall issue from our new quarters, promptly on day of publica tion, and continue it regularly on time each week, uuless providentially hindered. Another Promise. It is customary for all weekly journals to suspend ou Fourth of July week. In order to make amends for the present week’s suspension, The Express will not lcfee an issue iu that week. Very respectfully, CORNELIUS WILLINGHAM, Proprietor. Grand Jury Pi-esentments for the Fourth Week, January Term, 1881. Bartow County Superior Court, January term, 1881.—YVe the grand ju rors chosen and selected for the fourth week, respectfully submit the following general presentments: The grand juries of the first and thiYd week of the present term having tully examined and reported upon the records, public building, finances, roads, bridges and pauper farm, leaves but little of county affairs to claim our special atten tion. We concur with the grand jury of the first week with reference to a county court, water closet, and building a free bridge across the Etowali river. We call the attention of the county commissioners to the necessity of fur nishing powder and fuse for the removal of rock in the public road near Mr. John Shuler and Mrs. Hay’s residence in the 6th district. Also in the Pine Log and Canton road near Mrs. Smith’s. These obstructions are represented to our body as a great nuisance and should be immediately removed. To correctly understand, and satisfac torily present the financial transactions of the county school commissioners, it will be necessary, in the future, that the commissioner pqsp to the tax collector duplicate receipts for all school funds by him received. The tax collector, as we are informed, passes the receipt or warrant of the com missioner to the comptrollei general to his credits leaving no written evidence of the amount of school fund due and paid to Bartow county. Complaint has been made to our body of neglect on the. part of road commis sioners to apportion hand as required by law, to the great hardship of certain par ties. We find thirty panes of glass needed in the court house and jail, and the fencing around each needing repairs. We have examined and approved the dockets of the 856th and 827th district G.M. On taking leave of his honor J. W. 11. Underwood, we tender thanks for his kindly recognition of our body during the week. To the solicitor general J. W. Harris, Jr., we return thanks for .instructions and courteous attention to our bodj r . We recommend that these present ments he published in each of our pa pers, at half rates. All of which is respectfully submitted. Feb. 4th, 1881. Wm. C. Allen, Robt. C. Saxon, Clerk. Foreman. Superior Court, January term, 1881. It is ordered by,the court that the within general presentments ot the grand jury for the fourth week of this term be spread upon the minutes of the court and pub lished as directed.
