Sad Case of Insanity. A young man of this county, Co lumbus D. Belk, son of Mr. A. P. Belk, and brother of Mr. Warren Belk, became insane. o,p Friday last. He is a young man about twenty years of age, and has been consid ered a youth of good mind and bal anced intellect. He is now a rav ing maniac, his mania being devel oped into an insatiate propensity to destroy both life and property. The character of the mind and temper, and the disposition of the patient was the primary causes of his disease. He was naturally morose, gloomy and despondent in mind very quick and passionate in temper, and vindicative and revengeful in dis position. For months he has brood ed over troubles with his father and brother, and imaginary injuries. The immediate cause ot his insanity, was a difficulty he had with his broth er not long since, in which he became wild with rage and anger, have stated, his insanity was made niS'-nlaw.Fßirlc.y.'ask gerous type, he was tied ana incarcer ated in a room in his father’s house until Tuesday last, wheu his brother and father brought him to town, uud took legal steps to have him trans ferred to the State Insane Asylum at Milledgeville. He was confined in jail Tuesday and Tuesday night. Wednesday morning Messrs. 0. C. Bullock and Warren Belk departed with him to Miiiedgeville, with proper papers made out to Gov. .Smith and Dr. Green. • The frenzied actions of the unfortu nate young man, and the sad incidents connected with it, we do Dot care to publish. Sufficit to say in regard to him that it is the most violent and dan gerous case of dementia, our people liavo ever seen. Statistics show that insanity increas es its civilization advances. The more enlightened a nation is, the greater the development of insanity, ignorant and barbarious nations are not troubled with it but to a very limited extent. Statistics also show that the more des potic and tyranical the governments, the less liable to insanity are the peop le under them. The reasons ot this is, that in uncivilized and despotically governed countries tbs mind is not brought into active erercise, while in highly civilized and free countries the mind is kept in tho greatest activity and frequent overtaxed. It is stat ed that Mn China insanity is rare, from the strict despotism under which the people live, restraining mental ac tion, bnt since the great rebellion com menced it has increased, and fatuity, the result of the excessive use of opi um, has also been prevalent. In India there are comparatively few lunatics. In Italy and -Austria insanity is less fre quent than in countries enjoying more political freedom. In France the pro portion of the insane is about one to 1000 inhabitants; in England, 1 to 783; in Scotland, 1 to 563; in the United States, about 1 to 750.” Centennial Boys. Mr. A. L. Guy had anew comer at his dwelling on Saturday last—a boun-’ cing boy; Rev. A. P. Ashurst, of Bueaa Vista, was made happy on Tuesday night last, by the appearance of a fine “son and heir.” Our congratulation to both fathers .Tazewell’ -A. DEMOCRATIC NEWSPAPER. BUENA VISTA, MARION COUNTY, GA., JULY 21, 1870, Democratic ideetlug at Pine ▼tile. PINEVILLE, GA. ) July 15th, 1876. j According to previous notice, the citizen of the Kincbafoonee District, met at Pineville, for the purpose of selecting an Executive Committee for said district, subject to the calls of the Chairman of the Executive Com mittee, of the County during the fall Campaign. F. M. Robinson was called to the Chair, and W. W. Wil son requested to act as Secretary. The Chair requested Jas. D. Wilson to announce the object of the meet ing, who in a few pertinent remarks stated said object. It was moved by J. D. Wilson that the chairman appoint five men from different parts o! the District to act ns said Committee; and as delegates to the nominating Conventions at Buena Vista for the present year, which motion when sub mitted to the House unanimously prevailed. Committee appointed John F. Hollis— Ch'r’n. E. M. Tharpe. W. A. Clements. J. J. Nicholson. w.i ... W S SmirirK was requested to publish proceedings. Meeting adjourned. W. W. WII.BON, F. L. Robinson, Secretary Chairman. Significant. —Every candidate for Governor, whose claims the Bainbridge Democrat advocated, has withdrawn from the canvass. No sooner does the Democrat man get himself into good fighting i trim for a candidate, than the aforesaid candidate, leaves the field in disgust. —The colored Sunday School Celebration and Concert on Satur day were iargoly attend and. No doubt they had a good time. —A nice social party will be given at Mr. J. M. Armor’s resi dence, near town, on Tuesday night next. Those who attend may ex pect to have a grand time, for Mrs. Armor always conducts such things in tip top style. A colored leader who has been a candidate for the Legislature for two consecutive elections, comes oot in the Argus to day, stating that he will not be a candidate this year and that the Republicans will not offer any opposition to the Democratic nominee. Sensible. We make our most polite bow to Mr. A. L. Guy for a present of fine Butter Beans. They came Saturday, and were the first we bad seen this season. The colored Methodist Church in Amencus has' been burned dowD by incendiaries, presumably of the North ern Methodist Church, as they laid olaims to it but it was finally awarded to the Southern Colored Methodists. As soon as it was done the fire occurr ed. The Argus being the organ of the Dem ocratic Party, of the county, we would be very glad indeed to publish the pro ceedings of all public meetings held in the county, so that we may keep the Democrats of the county advised of the movements of the party. Tho Bainbridge Democrat will re sume its old size this week. We are glad to note this evidence of returning prosperity. The Democrat stands in the first rank of country weeklies, and we wisli it a magnificent support, which it deserves. , ♦ ♦♦ ■ 1 Colquitt is now the only promi nent candidate for Governor iu the field. We predict that he will be dominated by acclamation. 4 Personal. Mr. J. Lot Price, of Americas, visit* ed our beautiful little town, on Tues day, and met many of his old friends and acquaintances who wouid be glad to seo him again in the warehouse and Commission business in Amencus. Miss Mary Green, of Schley county, la visiting her friends in Buena Vista. Miss Annie Rylander, who has been spending some time with her Marion county friends, has returned to her home in Sumter.
