(Communicated,) toil'll CW’ICCEKN. Mr. Jill fur’: As thn ehfilm f. i county officers will soon bo tmvlo, id would bo w oil lor the people to (’nsl alioul in their ii+imlv ha ingu due i-o --yard to tlre i'+Vtenst. 1 f tho enmity. Is is to lie lVyi'etfurl l Unit tlitre is not more iW-roony. It is always ilnti gei-oivs- t'rr yd up excit 'incut upon local i-saes, and especially is this true when ibe strife is between members of tlie same political faith. Our ob ject is So remote all littonicss and produce mi our midst a 1 ealing of the troubled waters. Men ought in poli tes to nse the Same disoatiiioii th-y observe ift tlic ordinary transactions of life, tjmt is to say, gel the best ar ticle for the amount expended, ami that toerwithout reference from whom the pitrel hc is rnmle. In other wonh, the pay bf a good officer does not ex- ceed dutt *v a poor one, hence it fol j lows did in order to nuke tl e best ; trade tire' best officer should be chosen, and no Weslion should bo asked whether he lives in town or in the country. The idea of locality entering into the question is absurd. In nearly all the offices to tie filled the duties of tVc .chosen are merely mii.istciia], ; bettce the gsont essential qualification is to be found in the lmnsty of ihe tfßcer. We&ic glad to know dial all whose names are now prominent, pre sent unexceptional charncteis in this tree aid, ami the office \v:!i he well ill iel, -doubtless, let tlic choice fall w here it maw. ’There is, huxveVcl*, otic ill ice to wifi A the people ought to look wit.li wise discretion, xve refer io the ()r<!i fiary’s office. There is not a Court in lic State more important. Tlitoigh | its acljutlifaiions tlie estates of the dead j ami the lights ami interest of the j widows ami ot phans are passed up mu j A mote sacred charge could jot "’<ll j be conceived of. One to fill that pogt tion well should not only possess the j qualification mentioned ill relation to i the other cilices hut should be j well versed tn the knowledge of the! law. If a due regard to this impoit ant fact was had, very much expen sive and prolonged litigation might j nnd wou'd be avoided. Want of a knowledge, oi the law often tvsults in pri or {lint can only be correct' and j.’.y Mi appeal to the Superior Comf. Tins is wrong because expensive, and all moneys expended in litigation neces sarily 1 crults in loss cither to the heirs or thecteditors. To the creditor 'if the estate is insolvent; to the luir if the estate is solvent -neither should be, anti, in many cases, neither would lose if the Judge was well informed upon the law. 1 n short, we are of the opinion that a mail to w hom is ill 1 rusted the adminis j'ut'on of the law ought to know the law, and no man can know the law well who does not make jt-a study. Row, we often hear people my that they will ’ not vote for a lawyer. This is wrong. If we were going to hnyc a house built we would get a carpenter i if a mill, n machinist. It', to have a farm cul tivated we would get ,afarmer. So if seems to us 1 hat if good and sufficient reasons justify what ?we have said upon this line of thought, if follows that if we were choosing an officer io pass upon the legal rights of others we would elect a lawyer. No one would think of p)&cUig .on the bench of the Superior Court n man who had never rend and prac ticed law. ]l the rule is a good one, in regard to that Court, why does it not hold good in regard to the Court of Ordinary? The rights of widows an 1 the interest of minors area.ssae.rcd and should be as scrupulously pro tected as the interest or any other pcop'c. Can this be done hy placing n man in the office who docs not. pos sess a knowledge of the law. As well might you expect to have a beautiful homo built by a blacksmith or a successful mill built by a man who knows nothing of the laws of ma .chincry. This is wrong my country men. And let us in tins matter act with that common sense and judgment, used by us in reference to our individ ual intcret. This is written in the interest of no particular candidate, but with the nope of allaying those prejudices which exist in the mind without cause and contrary to reason. Let ns bury the hatchet, so far as the past is in volved, and look forward to the future, having as our motto ‘•Reform." The inauguration of Tilden is a change in the right direction. Let us see to it. that changes (when necessary) will continue to-be made until the offices from the highest to the lowest arc tilled by men who have the interest of the peop c at heart, and in a short time our Government will b pro pelled by tite use of a much smaller amount of money raised by taxing the already heavily oppressed people.
