—Mr. O. C. Bullock has now at bis
stables one of tiic finest trotters in

• —Misbehavior in Church, aside
from its sinfulness and impiety, is an
evidence of gross ilibrecding. Wo
are informed that some persons were
guilty of iliis shameful tiling in the
Methodist. Church last Sunday. If i l
be so, wo hope they will not repeat it
from s- l'-respect, or, if they have no
self-respect, from respect for the pa
rents who bred them.
A wonderful magician, of the to
t) humbug species, came to Buena
Vina, >.i!i Monday last, in an ox cart,
to exhibit his sle ght-of hand tricks.
Mil)or Stokes asked him to show his
sapornaUuMl skill by producing a ten
dollar 110‘e to iay his town license.
Flic ‘d’rofessor” said tie thought his
ox need, and some shucks, and went out
in tho eo miry to got them. He has
no coin ■ back yet and \vc are almost
clving to sec that show.
Good writeis are cordially invi
ted to contribute to tho columns of
tho Argus.
—Genera! regret is felt at tho de
parture of our estimable townsman,
itev. A. P. Ashurst, who has left us
for new fields of laboi in Jackson
county, Florida. Success attend him.
We saw large quantities ot Wil
cox, Gibbs & Co.’s Manipulated Gua
no going to Marion county, on our re
cent visit to Americas. This is due
to the merits of the Guano and tho
successful dibits of Mr. Lumpkin to
introduce into our county a good ar
tide of fertilizer.
—Mr. Elihuc Croxton has built a
neat gin liouse oa the road in front
of his residence.
—Owing to the failure of out' sap
ply of paper to arrive in time, we
were unable to publish the Argus last
week. We issued a half-sheet only,
to our county subscribers. The loss
will be made good to our subscribers.
—Several now and interesting ad
vertisements appear yi this issue of
the Argus. Mr. C. M. Wheatley
calls your attorn ion to his Variety
Works, Mr. 11. C. Hyattlo his Har
ness, Wagon and Buggy Emporium,
Mr. E. E. Butt to a large number of j
deeds left with him for collection of;
recording fee, Messrs. E. G. Ivey &
Brother to the tact that they will lcoep
meal on hand for sde all the lime*
and Dr. S. V. WocxlrulT oilers his
professional services to the citizens ot
Marion and surrounding counties.
—Mrs. '.■Taney Russ, a very old la
dy of Mar on county, died on Satur
day morniog last, after n protracted
illness.
Nearly a Conflagration.
On Sunday night last Rev. M,
flair’s kitchen caught on fire, about
ten o’clock, through the carelessness
of the servant girl. Sometime dar
ing the day she erupted the ashes out
of the stove into a wooden bos, which
she left in the kitethen. Some live
coals were in the ashes, which burn
ed the box and portion of the floor
before it was discovered. Joe How
ard was the first to find the kitchen
in flames.
Ashes ought always to be emptied
and water poured on them, as soon as
they are taken up.

Judge W. B. Butt and Hon.
Howell T. Hollis, have returned from
Atlanta.
—The Macon Telegraph says that
Judge W. B. Butt, of Burns Vista,
looks so much like Colquitt, that
while in Atlanta lie was being con
stantly mistaken for the Governor,
by hungry applicants for office. The
Telegraph’s statement that the
Judge is a citizen o£ Macon county
is a p .ipable error.
—Judge C. H. McCall, Rev. W. J
Short, Mr. D. B. Wells, Dr. H. C.
Spinks and Mr. Randolph Battle, arc
in favor of calling a Constitutional
Convention.
—Messrs. M. G. Brady, 15. Halley,

At the residence of the bride’s father

‘The Alphabet” would caution
the Columbus Times to attend to
its own knitting. It is one of oic
most valued exchanges, but while
we’ve got our war paint on, we
don’t care to be lectured, compar
ed or cliampionied by any news
p i per.
The Argus lias just as little love
for “Ihat style,” as the Columbus
Times , but “desperate diseases re
quire desperate remedies,” and
“that style” was the only remedy
it Jiad to cure the putrid disease of
a patient, who n delirium tremens
had brought under its treatment.
—ln our local, noticing the new
colored preacher at Buena Vista,
we were mistaken in the man.
His name is Crayton, intend of
Drayton, a colored preacher of
Albany, whom we knew very well.
We know nothing of Rev. J. W.
Crayton, but from his appearance
we judge that he will make a go and
pastor to the colored people and
one whom our white citizens will
have 11a cause to fear.
Even if we are not smart wo know
what to do when troubled with a
cough or cold. No doctor bills for
us. We take a25 cent note, go to
the nearest drug store and buy a bot
tle of Dr. Bull’s Cough Syrup. One
dose relieves us and one bottle cures
entirely.

Dr. S. W, Woodruff will promptly attend
all calls in bis profession. Day or night.
He also continues lo treat with his usual
success all kinds of Chronic diseases of long
standing. Female diseases will receive his
special attention—his remedies are mainly
token from the Vegetable kingdom, but in
his treatment, of diseases, he selects from both
Vegetable and Mineral, asjwiy be most clear
ly indicated. Dr, Woodruff does not profess
to be able to cure all cases but will oet tainly
be candid in giving his opinion in every ease
that may apply to him ntul exert himself to
the utmost of his skill to cure all who may
place themselves tti.der his treatment. Dr.
Woodruff can be found all hours of the day
at his store, and at night ut his residence
North East corner public square, unless ab
sent on professional business.
