A Visit to Americus.
French House, September G, 1877.
We are iu Amcrreus and find the
people sighing for rain and looking
for a lively trade. The drouth at
and around Americus ha.s been long
and severe. This has caused some
of them to feel gloomy, bnt it is hoi>*-d
as the season advances success in
business will remove all ihe despond
ency.
Eason, of tho French House, is
driving on, and while his table is
well loaded with good things lor the
inner man dn-re is an abundance of
inner men seated around it. Mrs.
Eason, whom we knew when single,
looks after the interest of the guess,
which are eu rusted to her ca e,
with a modest, graceful dignity truiy
attractive.
We have met several gentlemen
fromNor<h and Soutn and wouid be

shall be sa isfi and now to men iou that
of Mr. E. Wilson, ot Pittsburg, Perm.,
whom we found to be a pleasant
gentleman. He is representing his
interest iu a cotton tie which he is
manufacturing. To us it appears
su ierior in its fastenings and more
easily manipulated than any other t e
we have noticed.
Business now is a little dull but all
are preparing for a lively winter
trade.
This is “moving season’' with many
merchants here, becau e r nts most
commonly date from Se] temt'er iu
each year. We have fal en in a
strange “pew” frequently in conse

however, never move. Among he
reliable stationary and ever active
business houses can be found the firm
of Messrs Buchanan & Bro, who are
doing a flue and safe business. Som
men from Schley and Manon think
they cannot get first class groceries
axcept trom them. This firm have
no disputes in them businres. Our
readers will find theii card in atioUer
column of this paper, and we are
satisfied they will like this firm not
only in business matters but as nen.
W B. Saville, the hardware man,

may bring him from other cities,
thus saving country merchants al

John F. Picket is still at the head
of Cotton Avenue and is striving to
keep ahead in the provision trade.
He is absent, but he will noon have
a large supply of everything in his

the Anaus. Everything here has the

Near by him is James Flicker, whose
