Texas expects to win back the

In Danville, Va., on the Sth inst.,

appeared he sought a private room,
In a few minutes five pistol shots

floor with five bullet boles in her
body. She was conscious, and said
her brother did right, lie surren

they parted the dying sister and

Opelika (Ala ) Times tells of a lo

which is getting to be too common
for personal or pub'c good:
Tho present indications are that
the county campaign will bo an acri

as it now stands, will admit of no

while wo admit that men may honest

their party, they should never try to
wreck the organization of the party

nor to gratify a personal spite
against a,ny man, however much they
array feel inclined to do so. The
great and glorious old Democratic

from centre to circumference by this
kind of intercino strife. llovv can

which was give at that place on
Thursday night of the second inst
was greatly enjoyed by all presout,
Trio performances consisted of 'Tab
leaux, recitations, pantomiues, music
Ac. The performers acquitted them
selves creditably and with often loud
ly applauded by the appreciative au
dience. Some of the tableaux were
strikingly beautiful and others laugh
able. The School master perfumed
admirab’y on the “fenco” was well
represented in two scenes ‘‘Taking
the "Vei!” was so wcilimitated, that
the Prodcsiant audience a’most
shuddered at the sight. Some felt
glad it was not in realty that the
lovely num was about to' exchange
her white robes for those more som
bre. Several recitations were good.
Jennie Mathis, the little blind girl,
added to the interest of the occasion
by s’nging several of her sweet songs.
Tnc “Nightengale of the evening’'
who had worn many heart during the
her short visit here warned tho fair
maiden of the treachery of tho “dark
eyed etargor.*’ The l’antomino was
as entertaining as novel. After the
performance was ended, a beautiful
cake, present- and to the church by Mr.
Reese, of Buena Vista, was auction
ed off. Much praise is due tho noble
ar.d energetic lady who labored so
faithfully for as good a cause, and to
the ladies and gentlemen who assist
hcr so kindly and so well. The con
cert wad gotton up for Iho purpose
of raising money to buy an organ for
the prosbyteriau church. Ot course
the whole sum was not expected
to be made in one rvght but a nice lit
