CAUDLE LECTURE REVERSED.
Now, Mrs. Cudle, I should like to
know x\ hat his become ol my lint
Here I’ve hunted all over the house,
and lost ten minutes that should have
been given to the Mutual L fo Insu
rance Cos. Now, I any,
what have you done with that hat ?
You haven’t seen il ? Of course
not; never do see it. Frank, go and
get my hat, and Juno fetch me my
cane. What's that ? You can’t find
my hat? Noxv, Mrs. Caudle, I
sboud like to know why you will per
sist in training your children in such
a heedless manner? He can’t find
my hat! To bo sure not; how can
he, il you don’t learn him how to*
look? Didn’t 1 leave it in tho kitch
en when I xvent there last night al
ter something to eat? Llow 1 lie
deuce should you know ? I say it is
your business to know, and to have
my things ready for me in the morn
ing, and not have me losing so muen
time. Eh ! you have too much else
to do? Of course you have! with
three servants and two children!
Becalm! Oh yes I will bo calm!
You see I am Calm, and if you would
only be so, I should have been able
to'fiod my hat long ago, instead ol
staying here to listen to your exeus
es, when I ought t > be down town
attending to business, I wonder how
you expect I’m to be waiting .here
jor my hat What! how can I help
it! How you help it! Why, mad
am, it is tho easiest thing in the
world ! It’s simply i his modem
management. Now, do yon suppose
things would go on in this way if you
would only see that aitides are in
tl e right place; but I suppose you
haven’t got time to do that even!
Of course not. Well there is no use
talking,l must go to the office bare
headed. Your bonnet, madam !
Your bonnet! But why should I be
surprised —why should 1 be surpris
cd it you should offer me your skirts
also, since I seem to have lost all
authority in this house ! It’s not
your fault? And pray, then whose
fault is it? I will repeat it over
twenty times, if you wish it ? vVhot!
tho servants ? No ma’am, I tell
you, yon are mistaken'.; it is not the
servants’— it is your fault. I won
der who oversees the servants—who
madam, but yon ! Then clearly iv’s
your fault that I Can’t find my hat.
Welt, it’s no use talking, I shan’t go
to the office to day and you, ma’am
shan't go to Newport—d’ye hear.
It’s no use asking; you shan't go.
You needn’t suppose I’m going to be
deprived of my hat like this and then
allow you to spend mv money at
Newport. No ma’am; I’m no such
fool as all that conies to. No—no
ma’am, here I am, and here 1 il stay
all day, ma’am and —Eh ! What you
wish I wouldn't talk eo much? I It 11
you I will talk, and smoke too—d'ye
hear that? I’ll smoke in the dining
room, and- yes,day Jove ! I’ll smoko
in the parlor, and, by Jove, ma’am,
I'll scent the curlriiis and smoke all
over the house! Here (says Mrs.
Caudle) the hoii id wretch wnsaoout
putting his odious precept inio prac
tice, when June came with his hat,
having fotpid it in a corner of the :
qak-Uec efiiair on l lie back step.

After man came woman.
And she has been after him ever
| since.
She is a person of free extraction,
being made of man’s nb.
I don’t know why Adam wanted
to fool away his ribs in that style, but
1 suppose he was not accountable for
all 1m did.
It costs more to keep a woman
I than three dogs and a shot-gun.
She is handy to swear at, xvlicn
i ever you cut yourself with a razor

Woman is the superior being in
Massachusetts.
There are about 00,000 more of her
I sex than males in that State.
This accounts lor the t Trilled liunt-

i who have ein migrated front the East.
Woman is not created perfi c f .
She has her faults —such as false
hair, faise complexion and so on.
But she is a great deal better than
her neighbor, and she knows it.
Eve was a woman.
She must have been a model, wife,
too, for it cost Adam nothing to keep
her in clothes.
Still I don’t think die was happy.
She couldn’t go to sewing circles
and air her information about every
body she knew, nor excite tho envy
ol other ladies by wearing her new
winter bonnet to church.
Neither could she hang over the
back lence and talk with her near
neighbor.
A!1 these blessed privileges were
denied her.
l’ocr eve ! she’s dead.
A LITTLE ADVICE.
1 want to give you three or feur
rules.
One is alw.-.ys to look at the per
son you speak to. When you are ad
dressed look straight at the person
who speaks to you. Do not forget
this.
Another is speak your words plain
ly. Do not mutter or mumble. If
words are worth saying, they are
worth pronouncing distinctly and
j clearly.
Another is da not say disagreeable
things if you have nothing pleasant
to say, keep silent.
A fourth is—and oh ! children re
member it all your lives —think three
times before you speak once !
Have you someting to do tlmt you
find hard, and would prt ter not to do ?
Then listen. I)o the hard first and
; got over with it. If you have done
wrong go and cordess it. II your
