eventually they die without apparent

'‘Contrary to tho predictions of some

ferod, financially, by the prohibition
of liquor. The gemrul trade in this
place has been equal’y as good,if not
bolter, than it has been at this sea
son in several years. Cotton is com
ing in about as fast as it has during
previous ycatv, when liquor could be
bought in any quantity desired. The
merchants arc doing a good busi -
ness, and everything is progressing
fiatly. The laboring classes arc sav
ing tho money whicn would be spent
for liquor if they could get it. With
out it they do not suffer, and many
of them are orly too g'ud to have it
out of their reach. Men from the
country who wore in the habit of get
ting drunk when they came to La-

think the prohibition law hasredoun
ded to the good of the people, and
the temptation to drink is removed
from the boys aud young men in our

With some assistance ho succeeded
in drawing her up,but she was near

whe she raised the outcry for help.
At last accounts she was in a pre
