RAILROAD COMBINATION o'.
A special to the Augusta Choroni
cle, elated at Atlanta, Ga., Novem
18tn, says:
“There is no doubt ol the move
ments ot some north-western railroad
combination to form a South Atlantic
connection through Rabun Gap. It
is alleged that a New York company
representing *16.00(1,000 are in the
field with a probable connection with
the Cincinnati SoutWn. Advices
from Athens indicate, their probable
connection with the Northeastern
railroad of Georgia, in which case the
Rabun Gap extension of that road
will speedily be built. This will ne
cessitate a connection with the Geor
gia railroad- at Athens and may
cause the purchase of the Northeast
ern by the Georgia railivad. R m
believed that the present manage
ment of the Georgia railroad w not
adverse Ip such a purchase provided
the stock can be bought at a reason
able figure, and the city of Atb^ste
not opposed to such a sale If
proper tariff guarantees and ad
vantages for Athens can be secured.
