While playing with a toy pistol
last Saturday, Mrs. Lizzie Drane ac
cidentally shot the two middle fingers
on her left hand. The wound is not

elected Itev, W. R. McConell.of Bear
boro Scrivcn county,G’a., as principal
of tho Buena Vista school for anoth
er year. Mrs Cleveland, who, a short
time ago, was elected as onp of the
principals offthe school,§has declined
on account of ill health, Prof. Mc-
Connell will, for tho present, assume
satire control. lie is well rccorn

22nd, as the Columbus bound train
was slowly moving off from Geneva,
Mr. Heidingsfelder ran alter, and
caught it, but in trying to got on

Froze to Death
Aaron Chamblis.a very old colored
man, who livid in a little house in
town, was found in his bed last Thurs
day morning dead, supposed to have
frozen. Ho was paralyzed and could
barely g-t about oven on crutchcrs.
lie has been tor a good long t ine a
nauper on the county.

coroner.

live at Mrs Wallis’ this year.

Robbed —Mr Will D Matthews in
forms us that someone entered his
room oa Monday night two weeks
ago, an ) while he slept, robbed his
pants pocket of fifty dollars. The
money was in several bills, and the
thief, thinking he had made qu.D, a
haul, Carelessly dropped a ten dollar
bill on the floor.

—His Honor, the Mayor of Buena

—The young folks tried to have a
party at Oak Hill last Wednesday
night, but the cold prevented; a sim
ilar attempt was made about two
weeks ago, but the rain then permit
ted. The elements seems to have
conspired against parties at Oak Hill
this season.
Harvey Harris is out of the race
for collector. ’This leaves lour con
testants to make things lively.
At an election at the Court House
to-day for Justice of the Peace and
Bailiff of this (tho 807th) district the
vote stood for Justice of the Peace:
Webb, 42; Kemp, 12. There was no
opposition to Mr. Shipp and he re
ceived 53 votes.

a session of court since tho fail term
ot 1879, except two days hold by
Judge Butt last April, and there is
consideiablo businoss on docket that
ought to lx) disposed of. The law
yers doubtless have had tho “blues.”
Stewart county has been trans
ferred Irom the Chattahoochee cir
cuit to tho Southwestern.
Enquirer Sun: Thoro is a lady in
Harris county who has a quilt con
taining 1.705 pieces. Wo are inform
ed that it took 50,080 stitches to

Col. Wadioy has purchased another
railroad. Columbus and Western
this time.

printing and book binding establish
ment of Mr. Thos, Gilbert, was en
tered by burglsra They rifled all the
drawers but only ninety cents and
some postage stamps were obtained.
This is a warning to tbcives not to
trouble themselves about burglarizing
a printing office; for it will, as a rule,
never pay.
Messrs. Welch & Bacon, of Albany,
have failed. This was one of the
largest firms in Georgia, and their
failure will create general surprise.
Mr. Thos, Hedges,of Oconee coun
ty, lost his stable by firo on 27th,

On Christmas night a number of
negroes got into a row at Surreney
No. 6 Macon and Brunswick rail
oad, and a lively fight resulted. 6
participants were shot, throe having,
been badly and the others slightly
wounded.
Sparta Ishmnclite: Thore was a
difficulty on last Saturday night at
a house on the place of Mr. W. T
Knowles, between two white men
Lint Jackson and Jack J/eCook, on
one side and somo negroes on
the other. Our information is to the
effect that a negro ball was under way
in the house,, and the men mentioned
above started into tho house with
their knives drawn, in pursuit of a
negro with whom they had previ
ously had a difficulty. As soon their
design was known, one or more of the
negroes began to fire on thorn. Jack
son was fatally wounded, and died
on Sunday n ! ght. McCook was
painfnllv, but not ‘dangerously
wounded. These arc the facts as re
ported to us. It is not known, wc
beliova, who did the shooting,though
somo additional information may be
elicited by the Coroner’s inquest,
which had not been held at the time
of this writing, The afiair will, of
course,undergo judicial investigation,
if the patties who did the shooting
sbonld be found out and arrested.
A roman candle shot into a ware
house in Eufaula, Ala,, Christmas
day and burned SiOO bales of cotton.
