Grand Jury Presentments.
We the grand jurors chosen and
sworn for the Spring term, March 16,
1885, most respectfully submit the
following general presentments,
HU Honor, Judge Stewart having
intimated In his charge that the court
would likely adjourn within two or
three days, we thought best to recom
mend that an investigation of all
Countv matters be had bv a special
committee authorized bv Section 3921,
Code of 1882, and do hereby appoint
for that purpose, Edward Heard,
Oweu H, Tucker and Thomas D.
Guinn, and earnestly require at their
hands a full and careful examination
of mattcis pertaining to the County,
to embrace in said investigation the
act* and doings of Court of Ordinary,
Countv Commissioners, Clerk of the
Superior Court, County Treasurer,
Sheriffs’ office, Tax Collector and Tax
Receiver’s books, Pauper Farm, School
Commissioner, Solicitor General’s
transactions as to the collecting and
disbursing of fines and forfeitures.—
The investigation to he had relating
to the acts and doings of the County
Commissioners to include roads and
bridges. \Ve further recommend that
the above named gentleman act under
OUth and make their report hy the
September term of Superior Court,
then to la) placed on the minutes
said court and published in both
county paper* and that said committee
receive a* compensation two dollars
per day and pay a reasonable price
for the publication of their report.
We also recommend that ottr Rep¬
resentative and Senator have enacted
a local registration law for Newton
CaUntV.
We further recouinicrul : that as
the sale of intoxicating Leverages i
the giant evil of the day, we most
earnestly implore our Representative
and Senator to do all in their powei
to huve enacted a general local option
law or a prohibition enactment, aud
that a copy of these presentments !x

capacity. We regret the ill health of
Solicitor Womack, and hope a kind
Providence will soon restore him to
