A GROWING INDUSTRY.
As one of the great advantages
of the stock law, tbo production of
butter has been very materially im¬
proved, everywhere it has been
adopted. Butter culture is now one
of tbo giowing industries of our

shipments of butter from Eatonton,
during the past year, as shown by
the express agent at that place, and
published in the Eatonton Messenger
of last week. The figures are high¬

Is the Negro a Failure.
The Augusta Chronicle continues
to publish letters from leading farm¬
ers in Georgia and Carolina on Pro'
lessor White’s theory that tho negro
in tho south has proved a failure.
The l most philosophical, and
at the same lime practical paper we
have seen on the subject, is from Mr.
W. C. Benet, of Abbeville, S. C. It
is a remarkable and exhaustive doc¬
ument.
Mr. Benet covers the whole ground,
lie says :
The negro is not a skilled laborer,
nor is the field laborer of Franco or
England. But the negro is a good
simple laborer, docile, and contented,
and suits our hot climate.
Tho negro will not make a peas¬
antry, and he will not emigrate,
Tbo negro will not die out. He
will not amalgamate with the whites.
There is an instinctive race anti¬
pathy.
The mulattos form a fringe of bas¬
tardy on the great race—a sign ot
degradation of the white man and of
no elevation in the negro. That
fringe, so broad under slavery, will
gradually but surely grow narrower
in a state of freedom until it will be¬
come an almost invisible selvage.
The two races mustlivo together.
They can live together in poaee.—
There oan be political union without
social fusion. There can bo propin,
quity without hydridity, Then
can be nationization without amal¬
gam ition.
Let the negro alone. Let tho north
leave the south alono.
We do not look for a new class to
substitute the negro labor, Morali.
ty and the spirit to acquire property
will slowly come to the blacks,
Tbe south rather needs « a yeoman^
ry of small farmers than a peasan
try’—men who can use ncerro labor
and are workers themselv
The south should encourage itnmi •
gration to inquire a sturdy and num¬
erous yeomanry %

Public Life.
Atlanta Evening CapitoL
It is an inievesting problem why
public men in Europe live longer
than in America.
In England during this century
Brougham died at the a re oi 91,
Earl Grey at 89, Palmerston at 88,
the Earl of Derby at 80, D’Isrueli at
76 and Gladstone is yet vigorous at
76, In France Thiers diedal 81 and
Guizot at 85. Emperor William is
88, and his Iron Chancellor is 70.
In this country public men art
short-lived. Within a year Grant,
Hendricks, McClellan, Hancock and
Seymour have died, and but one ol
thtm was past the age that a Euro¬
pean statesman considers his prime.
At this tune three members of the
cabinet are ill, one seriously. Neith¬
er of them is 60 years of age, while
the president, who is about 50, is
over- working him-ell.
The Englishman takes rest and
he American does not. The Bril'
isher respects the rules of health
the Yankee violates them.
Our public men must take the les*
son of English longevity-.
THE SKIN,
ITS DISEASES AND CURE.
This class of troublesome complaints
embraces a large list, some of which af¬
flict nearly every family in the nearly land.— all
Heretofore the treatment of
these diseases have been very much un¬
satisfactory and unsuccessful, and the
people have been very much deceived
by pretented remedies. A majority are
caused by an impure, vitiated condition
of the blood, and as most of the blood
remedies of the day require 50 to 100
bottles before you discover that they
will not effect a cure, we offer B. B. B.,
which makes positive cures by the use
of only a few bottles.
The most common of the skin diseases
which are cured by the use of B. B. B.,
the only quick Blood Purifier, are as fol¬
lows :
Eczema, Sealdhead, Impetigo, Erysipelas, Old Ring¬
worm, Pruritus, Sores,
Pimples, Itch, Old Ulcers, 4 bscesses,
Dry Tetter, Carbuncles, Itching Humors,

The use of B. B. I!, will purify your
blood, will remove blotches, splotches
and bumps that appear upon the face
and neck, and will tinge the pale cheek
with the roseate hues of nature. One
or two bottles will convince any one of
its value. No family should fail to keep
B. B. B. in the house, as there is no fam¬

Success and Recogni¬

No special effort has been made to introduce
the Regulator into foreign countries ; yet, in
the course of trade, it seems to have found its
way into even interior Europe with highly grat¬

of a letter from Germany :
Northern Province of Hanover,
German Empire, Aug. 7, 1S84 .
Dr. J. Bradfield, Atlanta, Ga., U. S. A.
Dear Sir :—From one of my friends I have
learned your address, and from him have re¬
ceived a few bottles of your celebrated Female
Regulator, and its excellent properties for cur¬
ing certain diseases of the fair sex have been
communicated to me. 1 have had an oppor¬
tunity of trying your medicine in my own fam¬
ily with the most satisfactory success, and I
hasten to express to you my sincere and warm
est thanks for the happy effect produced by
your medicine. Not only in my own family,
but also in other families this side the Atlantic,
have the same happy results been effected un¬
,
til now tiie last bottle has been used up, and I
can no longer supply those who have made de¬
mands for the medicine. I wish very much to
procure a new supply, and therefore address
you to respectfully ask of you whether you
have an agency for your medicine on this con¬
tinent, and if not, to send me a few dozen bot¬
tles per North German Lloyd steamer, For
the amount, you may draw on me through
Messrs. G. Mecke & Co., Bankers in Bremen,
or if you prefer it, I will send you the amount
of the bill in advance.
Awaiting your reply, I am yours respectfully.
