The man who is wedded to an
idea doesn't need a divorce to be
separated therefrom.
Every tear that we brush away
from the eyes of the sorrowful will
be gathered up by some unseen an
gel fingers and placed as a gem
the crown of future glory.
Henry B. Landis and his
ter, of Reading, Penn., were
ly devoted to each other. He

I he Enjoyment of Life.
Many people miss the real enjoy¬
ment and happiness of life through
a lack of contentment. They are
never satisfied, and are ever living
the strenuous life.
But let us consider first the ba¬
sis for the true enjoyment of life,
which is a healthy mind and a
healthy body. Truly, good health
is the best thing in life. And yet
how reckless many of us are of
that precious commodity.
Then possessing good health it
is a person’s duty to be satisfied
therewith, and maintain i cheerful
manner. The man or woman with
the “hale fellow well met” manner
are the most popular. They are.
in fact, beneficial to the whole race
of mankind. They carry bright¬
ness and sunshine wherever they
RO.
We all naturally avoid the man
who is forever complaining, and
declaring that good luck and the
world are against him. He always
looks on the dark side. We always
think it a misfortune to be throw n
into the company of such j ngpmi.
All the world seeks the company
and companionship of those who
look on the bright side of life. It
is greatly a matter of habit. If
you have difficulty in seeing the
bright side, just always stop and
consider how much worse it might
have been.
The true enjoyment of life comes
from contentment founded on good
health, and a habit of seeing the
bright side which makes cheerful
ness.

The Oldest Inhabitant.
The oldest known American is
reported dying, in a New Jersey
almshouse, where he has been for
31 years. His name is Noah Raby,
half Indian, and half North Caro¬
linian. For some years he has been
blind, but all other faculties have
been preserved. He is a bachelor
and, for 120 years, has been a
smoker of tobacco and consumer of
fire water, when lie could get it.
He is a Jacksonian democrat, and
never bolted the party ticket, un¬
der any circumstances.
If Uncle Noah had been a total
abstainer from tobacco and liquor,
who can tell but what he might
have rounded out a centurv o
half. As it is he is the oldest in¬
habitant, and the most extraordi¬
nary and loyal Jacksonian demo¬
crat, although his image may not
be placed in the “Hall of Fame. J >
—Chronicle.
The man determined to keep his
integrity is never caught off his
guard. He is always prepared for
emergencies, never parleys with
wrong. His sword is ever at his
side and is pollished by service.
The presence of wrong is a signal
for battle, He unsheathes the
blade and throws the scabbard
away. His mind is always braced
for duty. To every suggestion of
evil there comes an unwavering
“no. t » While the weak and vacil
lating go down before the foe, the
good man walks steadily on to vic¬
tory.
Nature reveals God as well as
the Bible. Each season of the
year has its peculiar revalation. If
winter tells us of the sterner as¬
pects of God’s character, the spring
speaks to us of the gentler side.

Lightning Statistics.
About 500 people are killed by
lightning every year in the United
States, Twice that many are more
or less seriously injured, The num¬
ber of deaths from lightning has
increased considerably during the
past few years. The greatest num¬
ber of fatalities usually occurs in
the open. Some 45 per cent of all
such deaths occur out of doors.
Eleven per cent of all the deaths
occurred under trees, and nine per
cent in barns.
According to these statistics one
of the most dangerous f--L»<x:s in a
thunder storm is near a wire or
other metal conductor. A number
of women were killed while taking
in clothes from wire clothes-lines.
A line of this kind should not be
stretched within thirty feet of a
house. Another rule is to keep
away from chimneys and open win¬
dows during thunder storms.—

will no doubt be investigated by the

Something Worth Knowing.
Mr. J. T. Ivey, of Loganville,
was in the city Thursday, and while
here gave us the privilege of tell¬
ing the people through our paper
of his wonderful remedy for cuts
and sores on horses, mules, cows,
hogs, etc. He said if your mule or
horse should happen to get cut, ap¬
ply black pepper freely to the
afflicted parts and then cover with
soda. If the place runs so much
as to moisten the soda too freely,
make another application. If wash¬
ing affected parts should become
necessary, repeat the treatment.
At any rate, keep the cut filled
with pepper and dry soda. Mr.
Ivey obtained this remedy while
away on a visit to some section
where it is almost a continual thing
for horses to be cut to pieces 011
barbed wire, and says it is worth
knowing.—Walton News & Mes¬
