A SerioQS Charge.
Ex Sheriff A. M. Bmmlett was arrest
ed yesterday on a warrant charging him
with perjury.
The warrant wan sworn out by Mr. C.
H. Foote, and Mr. Bramlett was arrested
by SaeriC Cox.
Tbe basis upon which the warraut was
issued was upon teetimouy delivered last
Monday in a case where Mr. Foot* .was
the defendant, and the conflict of testimo
ny was so positive that Mr. Foote took
him with a warrant.' 11k case was being
tried yesterday in tha justice court in
which there was pretty general excite
ment. Several witness** were suampned
to appear and both sides will make a
strong fight for the supremacy. Col. E.
W. Oolmnan is attorney for Mr. Foofb.
The charge being so serious and if be b*
convicted the coustqueuce so momentous
that the case necessarily awakened con
siderable cousmcut aud interest.
This arrest was the first official act of
Sheriff Cox aud shows that he iutends ex
cutiug the law without fear or favor.
The prompt mauix-r in which be acted
with this waiter evinces the fact that be
will make us a vigilaut, capable aud un
compromising officer, and that Gilmer has
a sheriff second to none iu the State aud
equal to any sue has Imd since the father
of this young lueuiiiboiM'Sr. Billy Cor,
served as sheriff before the war.
Latbk.,— Ihd trial waa postponed by
the defendant until nsxt Monday, when a
